Phil Mickelson is Way Off The Mark on Social Media Return

By: | Mon 06 Feb 2023

YOU may be aware that Phil Mickelson has been stirring things up on social media since the start of the year. And some of it has been pretty unedifying.

Last week he dismissed a woman on Twitter with the following retort: “Ma’am, we are speaking guy talk. This isn’t directed towards you.” Needless to say, it was not terribly well received.

I have always been a fan of Mickelson. Or at least I was until his attack on the PGA Tour, which he accused of being greedy. That was bad enough but he then turned on his Saudi paymasters, describing them as being scary mother******s. But he was and is still happy to accept their money.

And now it seems he is attempting to become a mouthpiece for LIV Golf with his ludicrous assertion that LIV Golf would “dominate” the PGA Tour in a Ryder-Cup style clash.

The bitter divide between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has led some fans to ponder how a competition between the two would unfold.

And Mickelson shut down any chances of such a contest taking place by claiming a non-contest would not be beneficial for the TV rights holders.

“It sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quick that tv would have to fill an hour of dead time,” Mickelson said. “That’s why it’s not happening at this time.”

In Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith, LIV Golf has two of the best golfers on the planet on its books.

But as for the rest, Bryson DeChambeau seems to have lost his game completely, Brooks Koepka endlessly fights injury, Sergio Garcia seems more focused on upsetting people than playing golf, and would the likes of Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Ian Poulter, Richard Bland and Lee Westwood have anybody quaking in their golf shoes? I don’t think so.

Mickelson is correct when he says TV would have to fill dead airtime, but not for the reasons he suggests - it is LIV Golf who would be on the wrong end of a hammering.
