How You Can Play Torrey Pines

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 17 Jun 2021

Enjoying a spectacular location overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the 36-hole Torrey Pines is considered to be one of America's premier municipal venues. It has been a regular fixture on the PGA Tour since the 1960s, it hosts the prestigious Junior World Golf Championship, and it has twice welcomed the United States Open - in 2008 and 2021.

The likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson grew up with a close affinity to this public facility, especially the fearsome South Course, where both iconic figures have claimed significant success through the decades.

Owned by the City of San Diego, what makes this a special place is that it's accessible to all, open to everyone. While many intensely private clubs can boast stunning layouts with history, playing them is a remote, distant chance for most of us. But at Torrey Pines, you can take in the vistas and walk in the footsteps of many a great champion.

If you want to play the South or North Course, quite simply you can book directly! Tee times can be booked within three days of play without a booking fee, whereas a charge of $45 booking fee per player, per tee time, will be administered to reserve your space should you book 4 to 90 days in advance.

With regards to green fees, for non-San Diego residents (who naturally can take advantage of a significantly reduced fee), the South Course (the US Open course) can be played during weekdays for $202.00 or $122.00 for a twilight rate. Weekends are slightly more expensive. While for the North Course, it's $128.00 and $76.00 during weekdays.

So, effectively, you could play a US Open venue - where Tiger Woods unforgettably won in 2008 - for under just £90. How about that!
