COBRA Golf F8 and F8+ Driver Review

REVIEW: COBRA F8 Driver

By: | Mon 05 Mar 2018

COBRA have launched their new F8 and F8+ Driver featuring a distinctive new look and COBRA Connect technology, but just how does it perform on the course? I recently headed to Las Colinas Golf Club to put the new COBRA Driver for 2018 to the test:

About the COBRA F8 and COBRA F8+ Driver

The COBRA KING F8 and F8+ take advantage of the brand’s fresh Precision Milled Forged face for greater levels of performance. Compared to traditional hand polished drivers, CNC precision milling allowed COBRA engineers to achieve precise face thickness and tighter tolerances resulting in improved bulge-and-roll curvatures with a face that is 3% thinner and 10% lighter for maximum ball speed across the face with distance and accuracy.

Loft:

 8.0°, 8.5°, 8.5D°, 9.0°, 9.5D°, 10.0°, 10.5D° and 11° (11°, 11.5°, 11.5D°, 12.5°, 12.5D°, 13.5°, 13.5D° and 14° Ladies only)

Shaft:

  • Aldila NV 2KXV Blue 60 (R and S flex)
  • Aldila NV 2KXV Green 65 (s and XS flex)
  •  Project X HZRDUS Yellow 75 (S and XS flex)
  •  Aldila NV 2KXV 50 (L flex)

Price:

£329.00

In Summary

COBRA are upping their game year on year and for me the F8 and F8+ are step up on the previous version. The milled face is innovative as is COBRA Connect and I love the fact that they are not scared to do something different.

While I struggled to bring the spin down with this driver, I think that was more of a shaft issue and with the correct shaft I would be creating some great numbers. What was very impressive was the solid feel and level of consistency on off centre hits. This was likely down to weight savings that COBRA have found via the new CNC milled face and ne crown.

I also liked that they have toned down the colours quite a bit, this is one serious driver and COBRA are producing clubs with some serious tech, the new colourways point to that in many ways.

Finally, I think COBRA deserve a lot of credit for the inclusion of COBRA Connect, while it is a lot fun seeing driver distance it is the benefits of being able to analyse data over a number rounds that really makes the tech so powerful. Being able to understand and act on data is a real step forward in the clubs market. This driver IS the future....
