The Best Hybrids of 2018

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 09 Feb 2018

As the upcoming golf season approaches, we have taken a look at the new releases that have emerged onto the market, bringing together the Best New Hybrids of 2018.

Callaway GBB Epic

The Callaway GBB Epic hybrid is the first of its kind to incorporate Callaway’s Triaxial Carbon Crown, with materials that deliver a higher level of distance, control and versatility.

The Ultra-light Triaxial Carbon Crown offers maximum forgiveness as weight is saved and repositioned to increase MOI and lower the CG for easy launch and longer, straighter shots. The next generation 455 Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup is more efficient at delivering faster ball speed across the face, especially on miss-hits, for increased average distance.

Its robust body frame strategically positions weight around the perimeter to increase MOI, and concentrates weight low in the head to keep the CG low and deep for an easy launch. Metal injection moulded, tungsten infused standing wave optimises CG location and adjustability, and the Optifit hosel technology lets you easily choose from eight loft and lie settings.

Callaway Rogue/Rogue X Hybrid

For the first time ever, Jailbreak Technology features in a hybrid club since its introduction to the driver range in the Epic model. This technology sees two steel Jailbreak bars stiffen the body, placing more impact load on the face to promote ball speed and distance.

The hybrid also features an ultra-thin, Carpenter 455 steel face, which is extremely fast. Combined with Callaway’s industry-leading Hyper Speed Face Cup that maintains speed across the face, Rogue creates fast ball speed and long distance on off centre hits. The Internal Standing Wave allows Callaway to located CG lower and forward to promote easy launch.

The Rogue W model is ultra-light and loft configurations help slower swingers build more head speed to maximise their distance potential. The Rogue X model features a larger club head with lighter weights and stronger lofts, designed for maximum distance.

COBRA F8/F8 ONE Length

The new KING F8 and F8 ONE Length hybrids utilise COBRA’s Baffler Dual Rail System and a new Multi-Directional Crown Aero Technology to provide more speed, forgiveness and versatility than ever before. Just like the fairway wood, the taller and tighter-spaced rails provide more leading edge bounce, which helps the club stay lower to the ground for an easier, more consistent launch from numerous lies.

The multi-directional Aero trips on the crown, made of a lightweight polymer, ensure optimised aerodynamic performance while maintaining a lower CG for faster clubhead speed and more distance. The lowered skirt and a shorter, skinnier hosel provide an extremely low CG, while a fixed weight positioned low and back results in a high, towering ball flight that delivers the ultimate in launch and distance performance.

The F8 ONE Length hybrid allows golfers to utilise one setup and one swing from their hybrids down to their irons, offering the ultimate in consistency.

PING G400

The PING G400 hybrid has a thinner and more flexible face, thanks to the innovative maraging steel face, which generates more ball speed and greater distance. The 17-4 SS crown is PING’s thinnest yet and is cast ultra-thin for weight savings to optimise the CG location and increase total MOI for full-face forgiveness. To add, the crown turbulators and the groove pattern frame the ball for a captured look.

A machined back weight has been made denser to increase total MOI for extreme forgiveness with maximum stability, while enabling you to customise your swing weight. The face texture reduces spin, and the head’s cascading sole increases face flexing for higher launch.

Srixon Z H65

Like the driver and fairway woods, the Srixon Z H65 hybrid features Ripple Effect technology, delivering the most advanced innovation and best performance Srixon has ever manufactured.

Designed for maximum distance with a higher, more forgiving launch, these hybrids feature an Arc Support Channel that is progressively deeper by loft to stabilise initial launch conditions for more consistent distance and accuracy from longer distances. Furthermore, the Z H65 hybrids also feature optimised Centre of Gravity locations, meaning the lower lofts feature a lower centre of gravity, which in turn promotes a higher initial launch.

Titleist 818 H1/H2

The 818 hybrids from Titleist offer a new level of hybrid adjustability as they have been specifically engineered for maximum custom fitting adjustability in two distinct profiles. The SureFit Hosel provides 16 independent loft and lie settings to optimise consistent centre-faced contact, complimented by the shot-shaping accuracy of SureFit CG.

The hybrids also have a 10% average increase in MOI from its predecessor, offering more forgiveness and stability through an optimally positioned, deep CG. Finally, the Active Recoil Channel 2.0 generates faster ball speeds through its improved channel and flexing polymer insert, producing a significant advantage in carry distance.

The 818 H1 is best suited to golfers with a sweeping delivery and prefer the look of a fairway metal. The 818 H2 is best suited to golfers with a steeper delivery to the ball and prefer the look of an iron.
