Belton Woods to Stage ISPS Handa British Open Blind Golf Championships

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 07 Jul 2023

Since its formation in 1989, England & Wales Blind Golf has provided visually impaired men and women with the opportunity to enjoy this fabulous game, meet other players, and compete in a competitive environment, no matter their ability.

A registered charity, England & Wales Blind Golf has staged numerous events across the country, with their latest coming at QHotels Belton Woods Golf & Spa in Lincolnshire.

The ISPS Handa British Open Blind Golf Championships are being held from 10th to 12th July and this tournament is set to welcome golfers (and their guides) from around the planet, including four World Champions.

Golfers from England, Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Netherlands, Australia and Spain are represented in the international field, with there being three categories for blind golf; B1 (Totally Blind), B2 (Less Than 5% Vision), and B3 (Less Than 10% Vision).

Like anyone else, for people with sight loss, golf is a wonderful tool for connecting with others and keeping active, providing both mental and physical health benefits. It's also a hugely rewarding experience for the guides themselves.

England Wales Blind Golf

Sight loss affects a significant number of people in the United Kingdom and can develop at any age, which makes the work of England & Wales Blind Golf and other charities like them invaluable to so many.

More than two million people are living with sight loss in the UK. Every day 250 people in the UK start to lose their sight, the equivalent to one person every six minutes.

And golf can so offer so much to those affected - something that will be showcased at this year's British Open when the players gather at Belton Woods.
