Victoria Range was built on the shores of a man-made lake (Victoria Dam) and offers a stern test for any golfer, as well as breathtaking views of the surrounding Knuckles Range and the jungle-clad lower slopes of these mountains. The wildlife includes a host of birds (close to 200 different species), snakes, scorpions and monkeys. The course itself is undulating and varied, rarely does a fairway offer a level lie and the rough tends to be just that (the locals call a ball that lands in the rough "jungle-ball". Nevertheless, it is almost impossible to lose balls here since caddies are a requirement and ball-boys a highly suggested option, which means that at least another two pairs of eyes will spot any wayward shots and, in the case of the ball boys, even crawl into potentially hazardous (i.e. snake-infested) undergrowth. All this comes at a reasonable fee (the caddy and ballboy fee comes to less than five pounds, tips are up to you but tend to be around 3-4 pounds for the caddie, 1-2 for the ballboy). The clubhouse has a new restaurant which offers an ok selection of food of sometimes excellent quality (not always) and there are very reasonably priced chalets overlooking the 17th fairway for visitors to rent. The Caddymaster's/Pro Shop has a small selection of essentials (Srixon balls, plastic tees, gloves and some apparel, incl. shoes; some clubs, but not many and they're pricey), but you're best to bring your own clubs. There were two buggies once, but they've died, but since the caddies carry the golf bag this shouldn't be a problem. The heat, however, might be, so a mid-day tee off is not advisable, but first thing in the morning and, especially, after 3 o'clock in the afternoon is perfect. Overall, I've enjoyed coming to this place each time I've played - I play twice/week on average - and even a bad round usually has plenty of ups, not least of all the surroundings. Highly recommended!

It's around 40 minutes drive from Kandy and is a beautifully set out natural course. As the location's remote it doesn't get many visitors and there are only 30 or so members. The hire clubs aren't very good and the pro shop is minimal. However the course itself is a joy to play and of medium difficulty I would say. It's about average price for a good Asian course.
As one of only 4 courses in Sri Lanka I would definitely recommend if you're in the area.
