One of Surrey’s best and most attractive courses, Worplesdon is one of three superb golf courses, well hidden, but at the same lying close to each other in an area between Guildford and Woking. Together with its two neighbours, Woking and West Hill, Worplesdon is rich in heather and fir trees and has all the properties of a first-class inland course.

Classic Surry Heathland course
Never having played here before, I was really looking forward to Worplesdon Golf Club as a number of friends had sung its praises. This is one of Surrey?s classic heathland courses, known for its natural beauty, strategic design, and consistently high conditioning. It offers a timeless golf experience that blends challenge, charm, and tranquillity.Opened in 1909 and designed by J.F. Abercromby, the layout emphasizes shot making over sheer distance, although there are a couple of (for me) fairly long par 4?s. Narrow, tree lined fairways reward accuracy, and well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy. Greens are subtly contoured and were running true on one of the warmest and driest days of 2026 so far.
The fairways were firm and fast, and apparently are more so in summer. The greens were generally immaculate and quick without being unfair. The heather is abundant, but quite low after Winter, so less punishing than usual, but adds to the course?s identity.
Classic heathland scenery with pines, heather, and sandy soil, set in a quiet, peaceful environment?ideal for focused rounds, and with a traditional clubhouse with a warm, understated feel. Where we enjoyed the usual coffee and bacon roll before our round, and three courses including an excellent carvery afterwards.
The course features iconic par 3s that require precise iron play (or in my case fairway woods play). There is a memorable stretch on the back nine with great variety of holes. Overall we were met with friendly staff and a welcoming membership.
I would highly recommend the course, and will happily return.
