What The Club Says
The course is a real test of accuracy and power. The tree-lined front nice meanders through the forest, uphill and downhill, requiring accuracy and precision, while the back nine is flatter and longer, allowing you the opportunity to open your shoulders and let go. West Essex is also home to the smallest championship green in England, nicknamed ‘the Frying Pan’ by members, the 159-yard 5th is a short downhill par three where you are trying to land your ball on a green that measures just 14 yards. West Essex Golf Club has evolved dramatically over a century and now stands proud as one of the premier clubs in Essex. Located in North Chingford just ten minutes from the M25 and the North Circular Road. The undulating fairways and the superb greens present golfers of all levels with a challenging but fair test.

Will suit high handicappers as well
People may be put off by the fire which destroyed the clubhouse at West Essex earlier this year. Don't be - they have erected a ?1.7m temporary clubhouse and bar with full facilities. The course itself is in excellent condition, with a great half-way house serving drinks and snacks.
Most will play off the white tees (their version of yellow tees).

A little expensive, but worth it
Very welcoming for non-members. One of the few courses I have played on this Summer where the fairways were green and in perfect condition. Could not fault the tee boxes or greens either. Absolutely fantastic course maintenance. The breakfast options were also plentiful and great value. At ?60 (?45 with a county card) the price is at the higher end of the private courses locally, but you get what you pay for here. Anyone who believes that Essex is totally flat will be in for a surprise here!

Tricky, fun North London track
Course in very good condition if now very dry in places (how?) and some of the greens were very firm. Friendly members and staff in pro shop and bar.As it says on the website a game of two half's..the front nine very tight and strategic and the back nine more of an open up and hit driver.
Would definitely recommend if looking for an option in North London - tests all of your game but maybe not one for the hooker/slicer..

Nice course - worth a visit
1st time at this venue. Course in good condition considering the recent weather. Some standing water on the fairways and in a couple of,the bunkers. Bunkers compacted due to rain as well. Greens in very good condition and despite obvious evidence of recent work were running quite true in most instances. The hills provided some very scenic views , and would definitely play againReviewer Rating

Slick greens
The course is a real contrast of two halves. The front 9 are tight, big elevation changes, framed by mature trees, where you have to think your way around and make sure you put your ball in the right place to get to the green. The back 9 is more open and longer and presents less natural challenges. It is expensive to play but worth it - particularly with a county card - but be warned... the excellent greens are incredibly fast. I have barely come across faster in the UK, and certainly not in Essex. A great day out, pricey (including the clubhouse etc) but very welcoming. An interesting, enjoyable challenge.Reviewer Rating

What amazing changes
I played West Essex golf club the other day having not played it in a long while. First of all the condition was first class, the greens were fantastic for this time of view. Since I last played they have made a lot of changes, a fantastic new Trackman range, some new hazards on the back 9 making it even more tricky that it was before. Finally they have spent a lot of money on the bar area, it looks brilliant and the food and drink was first class.Reviewer Rating
