What the club says: The course may appear innocuous from the clubhouse, but don't be fooled. Rising up and down three times from Chingford Plains into and out of Epping Forest, the course will provide a varied and interesting challenge of your skills.

Challenging without being fancy

Very nice challenging forest course, greens in good shape considering how many players refuse to repair pitch marks!

Greens are always good surfaces!

I'm not a fan of this course, I find the first 5 holes, very hard to get through, the course is on common land so has to share the ground with other costs users, which will not be for everyone. Some good holes, I find the greens quite difficult to have a great putting round on, though the surfaces, when I play are always good/very good!! Reasonable value for money, as a pay and play. Try it out, and see what you think!

Play this course often and is most enjoyable and good value Shame that many young lads abuse it by sneaking on and off out of view of the pro shop spoils it for the rest of us ....until recently the bar was very friendly however suddenly stopped people wearing golf shoes in a rude manner ....shame as they need the business

only my second visit to this little gem,for ?20 or so you wont do alot better ,the initial holes may have you thinking its not gonna be all that, but this really is an interesting coarse as you'll soon find out with dog-legs,elevated tee's greens.
theres not many bunkers on this coarse(some historic reason) and they have done away with having to wear something red which was just a pain in the @@@@ as many people dont have a red top and rather than go buy 1 would understandably just play elsewhere.
as i say well worth a round with the added bonus that epping forest has some great places to eat and drink for your post game meet.
couple of minor issues could do with more signs steering you from hole to hole and not really an issue infact adds to the whole day but always alot of activities going on around the course, cyclists, dog walkers, walkers etc

The Chingford Golf Course is run and controlled by City of London. Royal Epping GC. Chingford GC and Chingford Ladies GC are all attached to the course with their own separate club facilities, see their separate web sites. The Caddy House (Pro Shop) controls the playing times and provides facilities for individual teaching and classes for Public Pay and Play as well as a cafe and golf shop. The course condition, especially greens, is comparable with most local private courses and much better than most P & P public courses in a 10 mile radius.

Can't believe the reviews that say the course is in good condition!! Greens very poor, loads of GUR all over the course. No signs saying where the next holes are, worst score cards ever seen, poor yardage markers, £25 pay and play is a disgrace. I could go on and on. Never going again

One of my favourite pay and play courses. It is a nice track with some really enjoyable par 4s. It gets tight at the top and irons off the tee are the best bets. Course condition is generally good and drainage is excellent. Only gripe is that you have to wear either a red top or red trousers but that is tradition in order to differentiate between a golfer and a walker. Great value for money with an attached cafe that serves up a good English breakfast.

Great course. Very challenging with tight, sloping fairways and holes that play into the heart of Epping Forest. A tricky closing hole, par 4 for members, par 5 for public playing over a pond towards the club house. Very well kept course, very challenging - a must play!

Royal Epping Forest Golf club or also known as Chingford Golf club
is a demanding course even though only a few bunkers tree lined fairways and even though it is a public thoroughfare all greens are well kept and are nearly always playable even in winter conditions
if considering playing this course you must include either a Red top or trouser with other golfing attire
