Played West Chiltington twice in the last month, June 2013. Both times the course played tougher than it at first may appear. First nine (oldest nine) plays tougher than the back nine. Also this seems to reflect in the difference in pace over the two nines on the greens. This maybe just me but there is a difference.
Overall course in good condition.
Clubhouse and Pro shop good and reasonably priced.
We tend to play here at least twice a year and it is a true 'golf club'
Staff are also terrific, very friendly.
If I lived closer it would be a club I would join.

The first 9 is very tight playing up and around a valley with a ditch cutting across. Lots of mature tress mean you need to be straight off the tee or you will be blocked out easily. The back 9 is slightly more open but there are 4 holes in a row where you go up and down almost identical holes.

The greens were still a little bobbly with sand and fertilizer still evident from the spring spiking. Fairways need a little trim as some lies were a little fluffy.

Overall pretty decent condition and very firm underfoot with good run on drives.

Good practice facilities with a range, traing bunker and a par 3 9 hole course attached too.

A challenge, for those like me used to more open downland courses, on the first 9 you must be able to hit the ball straight else you'll be out of bounds or hitting others on neighbouring tees! Seventh hole 220yd par 3 is tricky. After the wettest year on record, as it is on sandy hills, course was soft but not too muddy. Will come back in the Spring. A single player getting stuck behind 3/4s is always an issue but here, 3 ladies let me go before them on the first, thanks and then the 4 I caught up with were very fast and not a problem.

I have been a member here for 2 years and watched the course improve vastly over this time, front 9 far more challenging. Just missing water hazards.

The course overall was great and challenging, yet the greens were unpredictable and weren't great. Narrow fairways mean that you have to play safe with an iron or be on your a game with the driver

I've played both the 18 hole course and the par 3 9 hole course as as a friend is a member of the 9 hole course. I enjoy it every time I play and feel like the course just continues to improve every time especially with new owners, Martin & Debbie.

The front 7 are some of the toughest holes I've played (mid-high handicapper) with tight fairways and lots of large trees. The par 3 220 yard up the hill through the tight trees 7th should be on the pro circuit (Martin is looking to change this I think!). The remaining holes are not as interesting but still enjoyable - you feel like you can relax once you've got over the initial 7 holes.

It would appear most members play here in the morning so in the afternoon you feel like you are the only ones on the course. The view from the driving range is one of the best - looking towards the South Downs.

The clubhouse is simple but friendly. Not sure of the current food offerings but they offer a restaurant dining experience if numbers allow (book in advance). Good beer on offer too (Doom Bar).

If you have not been here and want a good value enjoyable round you'd be a fool not to give it a go.

The Notes say it all, the course is a really panoramic spectacular. Its tight in places so much so that i ended up having to take long iron off some of the tees. You can open your shulders later on in the round, especially some really great little holes lined by Stone walls. The course undulates massively to begin with. So beware of your fittness. Its very well bunkered, and the tees are mostly all elevated, which is why i enjoyed the views and belting a driver later on. The rough was quite pennal early on, and the 2nd was a really good test of a drive and long iron. Its quite tough in the first 5 holes. The greens were small, well bunkered, and later on I did play one of the best Bunler shots from what i can only say was a bunker that was vertical and 11 ft high in face to a long thin green. My playing partner bet me i couldnt do it again. and i did. eat your haert out Mr player. Play it in the summer its a real treat and the fcailities were really good. Good practice, good reasonably priced food, and good staff. Well worth a visit.

An interesting course to play and harder than it looks. You need to hit the ball straight on the especially on the front nine. Course was in a nice condition despite the recent heavy rain.

The clubhouse and food were good and the staff polite and friendly. Only disappointment was the the showers were cold. This was a shame as the facilities were very good.

Overall a nice interesting course and one that I will play again
