A challenge

Upland course with fantastic 360 degree views. Quite a lot of up and down so a physical as well as a golfing challenge ? especially if the wind blows!

Stunning

What an absolute gem. Panoramic view that are unmatched. Greens , swift and undulating that are small and easy to miss. The course is not long and gives ample opportunities to score, BUT … it’s is a course where most holes offer risk and reward, whether it be boldness off the tee or attacking the flag. The stunning 12 holes is the most difficult in the county. A par here is a great result.
Welshpool is a must play for any golfer.

BP

Spectacular views are matched only by James Braid's gem. The course is relatively short but don't be fooled into thinking you can overpower this puzzle of a course. Recoverability from wayward shots is almost nil on many holes, so take an extra sleeve of balls. The layout, set on 2 main hills is a challenge to all abilities. Greens are played on all year and are fast, small and undulating which means hitting the green is difficult and needs to be precise. To score well here, good course management is essential. Driver is not required on every par 4 or 5 and the par 3s are difficult to hit. The faiways are perfect to hit off, with fine upland grasses growing from a spongy base, from years of peaty establishment. The course layout is not the only challenge, with this upland course blessed with a testing South Westerly that turns an easy 100 yard pitch into a nerve jangling low 8 iron depending on wind strength. Overall this is a hidden gem and well worth a trip.

Well worth a visit

Excellent ?old fashioned? moorland course - not over-manicured. Good test which relies on the lie of the land for its interest. Not for the faint hearted if there?s a wind blowing!

Excellent course!

From the moment you arrive at Welshpool until the time you drive away, I have little doubt that you will love your time here.

The course has some wonderful holes, gorgeous views, and some of the quickest greens you're likely to play on. Bring your putting game or rack up a score. Be prepared to do some climbing though, as the course certainly isn't flat. It is worth the effort though.

If you're thinking of eating there, then do it, as the portions are huge and really good value. Those we met behind the bar are really friendly.

One of the best.

Immuculate greens on top of a mountain. Brilliant holes, alot of slope, few blind shots. You will play from all sorts lies, up hill, down, side. Short par fours are fun, greens are faster than expected. Steward very nice guy, good food. Would love to play it more, will go back.

Beautiful course and incredible views

We came up for the weekend from London and from the minute we arrived in the car park, we received a warm welcome from members and staff. The course itself is stunning and I'd be happy to walk it without clubs for the views alone.

What a nice friendly golf club with superb society booking deals. The clubhouse bar was well stocked with drinks and the food excellent (worthy of its food award). The golf course is not long but it is certainly a challenge for any golfer of high or low handicap. The views from the top of the course are absolutely breathtaking making you stop playing golf for a moment and wondering how far out you can actually see. A golf course that will not be forgotten in a hurry.

The Golf Club perched on the roof of the world.

This is an excellent James Braid designed course with fantastic 360 degree views . Not a long course but very tricky with small Greens. The Clubhouse is very welcoming with the steward providing award winning service.

I found this course a real gem. Previous reviews about sheep fences around the greens must have been very old as there were none and the sheep on the course very rarely were seen. This was one of the friendliest courses I have ever played at, the club steward Brent and his staff could not do enough.

The twilight green fee of £12 is very good value, but eventually you do get fed up of the sheep, especially as the fences around the greens do not always work. On the 10th green I found two sheep for instance.
Apart from the sheep it's a short but hilly course which will test your short game and accuracy. The pick of the holes are the 2nd, 8th and of course the 18th.

Unfortunately during the round one of the members decided to use the 6th fairway as a practice area, whilst I was trying to play the hole; other than that I found the other members good company

The course is very different to anything I have played, e.g. sheep on the fairways. It is a test as practically every green is very narrow and elevated. Most fairways are narrow, which will slope off so it's hard to keep it in the fairway. Some great views around the countryside. The 18th is a very good hole with a couple of hundred foot drop to the fairway, then a dog leg left. Also have to say the staff were extremely friendly.

The spectacular course is let down by the genrally poor condition of the greens, but many courses are similar due to this winters extreme conditions and the dry spring. We can testify to the excellent bacon baps but no decent beer or real ale was a disappointment so no 19th afterwards! Showers were cold hence facilities fair at best.

Fantastic course, played in extreme weather(wind and rain) but to some degree this made playing the course all the more pleasurable, the greens were immaculate and a joy to put on.
Not a very long course but very demanding and tee shots require thinking about placement on nearly every hole, i would recommend a buggy as this course is very hilly.

Every golfer in the world should play this course!!!!
I played this course on a regular basis about 14years ago and have only played it once until the 8th April 2008. I play off 10 and am quite steady, but this course will find any weakness in your game. Admittedly its not the longest course in the world but there is NOT one hole that is straight forward. Taking into consideration it is set across 4 mountain tops you can only begin to imagine the complex layout of the holes. If you are not going over, down or around a mountain, you are playing off the side of one!!
All I can say is you need to play this course before you die.
