What the club says: The Hampshire Golf Course is a well designed course with very few straight forward holes. Although not the most challenging, the frequent doglegs and strategically placed bunkers to catch your drives and approach shots all add up to make an interesting and tricky round.

A bit of an issue with birds pecking up some of the greens. Quite a few animal scrapes around. Lovely views. Would be exposed on a windy day. Wide fairways for the most part. Some significant level changes and slopes to negotiate. A nice course to play. A shame the bar wasn't open on the day we chose to play as we'd worked up a thirst.

Shocking condition, disgraceful

While the course has a decent layout with a fair few interesting holes with elevation changes and doglegs (especially the short par 5 13th and then tee shot back down the valley 15th), the course was in such dreadful condition that the layout barely mattered.

The greens were comparable to putting on cowpat (stodgy, muddy, not much grass) and some greens were even flooded - considering the recent dry sunny weather I could barely believe it. The worst greens I’ve ever seen.

The fairways are not much better, overgrown in places/not properly mown, with deep burrows and divots all over the place. Stay away.

There is not a moth during the year you can't play golf here. Greens maybe could do with a little work but more than playable . Comes at a very competitive price .

Good value for 15-36 hcp

Course drained really well and bunkers improved following being designated GUR for ages. Very forgiving fairways and playable rough make it perfect for amateurs up to about 15 hcp. If better than 15 then might find a bit too easy. As a 22 hcp it was perfect with reachable par 5s in three (as someone who only drives about 210.

Greens were good considering it's winter ,a bit bobly.

The Hampshire GC. Worth a visit

End of November meet up, so wasn't sure on how the course would be playing, but as the course is built on a chalk base, the playing conditions of the fairways and greens were excellent for this time of year. A few tee boxes could do with some work though. The course itself is a very good challenge and well designed, with some spectacular views form the highest points on the course. A couple of major disappointments was the bunkers had virtually no sand and were overgrown with weeds, etc, so were all really GUR and surprisingly there was no food available as the kitchen was closed, as the chef only works at weekends and the bar was also shut, so no after round drinks available. The Hampshire has so much going for it, but isn't capturing it's full potential during the week. The course would be full of societies and generating a great reputation if they put the social aspects of golf to a much better use, which would generate extra income, that it can then invest in the course. Worth a visit just to experience the course and views.

Course not great. Divots on all tees. Fairways a lot of divot marks. Greens are in a dreadful state weeds all over them, clearly not getting cut every other day. No marshalling. Clubhouse below average pro shop hardly stocked with clothing all special order apparently. No greenkeepers to be seen throughout our round their 5 hours.
