What the club says: Temple Newsam boasts 2 demanding 18 hole courses set in undulating parkland. The fairways are generous and often inviting but beware the natural hazards, including trees on most holes and streams that come into play on 8 of the 36 holes.
The Lord Irwin is marginally the longer of the 2 courses and arguably, the more difficult.
The Lady Dorothy course is slightly shorter but presents demanding par 4 holes to the start and finish of the round. The par 3's are less demanding than those on the Lord Irwin but it's two par 5's are longer.

Course was good for a council course competition on at that time we played so pace of play was a little slow but would definitely play again.

Greens were in really good shape. The new course layout was a mixture of some long holes and short par 4s. Fairways bouncy and good lies. Great for high handicap players. Greens are challenging to stay on as they're tight and narrow.

New layout gives a good 18 hole course but feel it's a bit pricey for a round.
It's a good test for average golfers with some difficult holes but better players will find it less of a challenge. Work continues to be done on the Course and with time this could be a very good venue. Facilities could improve as well which would improve the overall experience.

Great Improvements

Have played this course in all its various layouts over the past 30 year's. First time playing it's current and probably final layout yesterday. I think they've done a brilliant job of the design and including a lot of new paths/cart tracks around the course. The views from some of the elevated tee,s across Leeds are fantastic. The course was quite busy but pace of play was good, the greens were in excellent condition and the tee boxes and fairways were pretty good standard as well. I really hope that Leeds city council don't close this course because it is an absolute credit to the city. I highly recommend that you give it a try.

New layout, well worth a visit!

1st time playing the new layout and was a lot more enjoyable, have to say the quality of greens was much improved - they were a little slow at times but a lot of work has gone into them so a big thumbs up to the Greenskeepers.

The one negative for me is with a new layout they could have removed some of the old hole numbers as it was a bit confusing at times but overall definitely worth playing and I will be back very soon.

Quality greens for public course

Played this for 1st time in a few years. Greens were very good and overall state of course was good Its a public course so the round with concessions was less that ?12 which is amazing. if this were a private course Id expect to be paying circa ?20-?25.

Worth a visit

Vandalised greens

Nice course in rolling countryside on the outskirts of Leed. Fabulous views of the city from some of the holes, but several greens vandalised by local youths on motor cycles and quad bikes spoils the experience.

Challenging course Great views Highly recommend

I’m a member of another Leeds based golf club and was drawn to play in a singles comp at Temple Newsam. I was told before hand that the course was a bit of a state. Far from it. Considering the winter we’ve had, the course is in good shape. If I was being picky I would say the greens are bit woolly. I didn’t see any quad bikes although I did see a deer which was nice. The views on several lofty holes are worth the green fees. The course is quite long and challenging but offers golfers of all handicaps par and birdie opportunities. I had a pint afterwards and although a basic clubhouse the staff were welcoming and friendly. Finally, the member I played with was an absolute gent and a great ambassador for the club. Thanks again for the game Paul.

I played the new layout of the Lord Irwin course on a twilight green fee. The course is a bit dry and the ball runs well. The fairways are good, the semi rough is a little patchy with some rather deep bits. The long rough is very penal and needs to be avoided. The greens are unfortunately poor at the moment, I'm told they are working hard to improve them. The back nine is better than the front nine as it has more shape and character; there is a tough finish for the last 5 holes with dog legs and elevation changes. I would like to play the course again when the greens are better.
