I visited Stockport Golf Club for a round of golf with some very important business clients. I had heard that it was a good course and thought that this might help sign a very big contract. Everything that I was expecting was the complete opposite! I found the people of the club to be extremely rude and arrogant. The course was in very bad condition, the greens were terribly slow and uneven. I have been served better quality food in a fast food restaurant and had a better pint of beer from the slops in a drip tray! Needless to say it ruined my business deal! I would advise people to have business transactions at another venue, as I will definitely will be!!

Nice enough but not exceptional.

I played Stockport a couple of times during the winter of 2019/20 and was surprised by how wet the fairways were. Boggy, in fact. The greens were also soft to the point of being unplayable. Clearly drainage, thatch, and compaction are major problems at Stockport, which is surprising for a club which fancies itself among the elite in the area.

The layout is pleasant enough, with a few good holes. None are particularly memorable however, a point proven by the club nominating the par 3 8th as their signature hole. In truth it’s a decent enough half blind long par 3 with OOB right and back with intrusive trees blocking the right hand pin. Not exactly the stuff to get the pulse racing.

I returned to Stockport for a game in July and was astounded that while the fairways were okay the greens were still like puddings. What is going on? Or rather not going on!

Played the course last week after a few years away and great memories, but got to say I was disappointed.

There are now bunkers everywhere, someone in the clubhouse told us there were now 96 on the course- averages just over 5 per hole!!.

The greens were in good nick as they always are at Stockport, but how soon do they move to the temporaries, which were set up and ready to use already. so worth checking if they are in use if you are looking to visit late Oct to March, it could ruin your day!!

Course still manicured nicely, but unusually for Stockport a few drainage problems left a couple of the the fairways with large GUR sections.

Traditional Clubhouse with good wholesome food, recommend the excellent steak pie, chips and peas.

In the current economic climate our society paid £60+ each for this day and we were informed everything had been done at cost, so a little disappointed in the overall value for money aspect when you compare to other clubs locally.

Stockport's in really good nick and looks beautiful. My only criticism was the quality of the bunkers which, unfortunately, I had to experience far too frequently!!

A very enjoyable test of golf for all levels, with some great golf holes. A couple of stand out holes for me include the 1st which is one of the strongest opening holes in cheshire, and the 8th which is a fantastic par 3.
There are some classic risk/reward scenarios on many holes, and if you're swinging and putting well you can shoot a good score....but it's not easy to go low. it's a very 'fair' course that will reward good play, but it doesn't just gift you a score.
Also important to mention the high standard of catering and service that will make a visit all the more special.
Overall, not cheap, but fantastic value, and would happily recommend.
