A very nice venue currently under re-development so isn't in the best shape but for that said the design is good, the quality of the fairways stands up well to the heaviest of rain with the exception of a couple of areas, which are being rectified. The clubhouse is lovely as are the staff, the shop is well stocked for its size. Great value for money visit.

Very disappointing
A very disappointing visit to a course we have enjoyed many times before. With the refurbishment work undergoing it left the course in a very poor and obviously neglected state. The new clubhouse is lovely and worth the money spent on it. The welcome as always was excellent as was the food on offer and value for money is good but they need to spend time on the greens as they were on the poor side to say the least. Shame really because it has potential. Will visit again but not for a long while.(Round played: Oct 2021 - Score: 94 Handicap: 19)

Fair test.
The course is now named as WOOLFOX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB. Plans to close the course and build holiday accommodation has been postponed with the course still operating. Possibility of the 18 hole course remaining post accommodation build?Reviewer Rating

Course in excellent condition
Have played here once before a couple of years ago, the course in is much better condition then I recall. I have no issues with any part of the course. It was in superb condition with all elements fantastic. Great tee boxes, fairways and greens immaculate (excellent job) My only gripe from the day was the poor pace of play. There was a couple in front that were so so slow in playing. On every shot one of them was taking forever, using a range finder, throwing grass in the air to check the wind (he was playing like a pro yet never seemed to hit a fairway or green) was absolutely absurd and very frustrating to play behind as waited up to 5 mins at every tee box. What made it worse is that the other player was in a buggy so it was expected to be a decent pace of play. Almost 4.5 hours for a round is not good when it's usually between 3.5 to 4 hours. This golfer in front was really taking the mickey.Reviewer Rating

Woolfox in the wind and rain
Played in the beautiful british weather, other than snow and fog, we had everything. The course was in great condition. The greens were superb and overall really enjoyed the day(Round played: Aug 2021 - Score: 76 Handicap: 6.9)

Definitely worth a visit

A nice course ruined
A nice course that was enjoyed for many years has been ruined by mis management, lack of funding, lack of interest and the bad weather. The front 9 holes in part are virtually unplayable but due to greed and apathy they keep the course open and don't address the issues. Poor maintenance has increased the problems and I for one am happy to be moving to pastures new. A clubhouse with staff that reluctantly stay open for refreshments doesn't advertise a warm welcome anymore, and it never used to be like that. All in all a complete shame. Currently new owners have made an accepted offer on the venue so perhaps watch this space for improvements.Reviewer Rating

Good well maintained course, drains well. Par 5 and Par 3's are long and a real challenge. The course is deceptively hard, the rough is thick but not long we spent a long time looking for balls in the grass off the side of fairways.

We choose this course for a stop of on the way back from Sheffield to Maidstone. Green fees excellent value, course was in good condition. Staff very friendly and helpful, inland links course with some very challenging holes. Lots of bunkers guarding the greens

Lovely course needing attention
A lovely course set in a lovely area. Unfortunately spoilt by a lack of care by either management or greenkeeping staff or both. Recent change of pro looks to be improving things but a lot of work is needed to improve the greens that are looking a little sorry for themselves. The teeing area of the tees need to be moved around a little more as do the flag positioning on the greens. Sad to say but the greenkeeping staff are not very visible much, and as with a lot of courses nowadays too much focus has been to put on the "football golf", which again in my own opinion distracts away from the golf course and encourages the "wrong" element to a nice golf course.(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 88 Handicap: 16.7)

I have played this course many times over the years and the course has improved so much over the years. This year we have had one of the hottest and driest for a long time now and I am amazed just how well the staff look after the course during this relay hot spell. The greens are in superb condition when you take into account the weather of late.I have played other courses during this hot weather and see how difficult it is for the staff to maintain the greens in particular. So a big thumbs up and a big thank you to all the green keepers at Rutland County trust me most of us playing the course relay appreciate the hard work you guys put in to golf course. Next time we wave at you remember it is not just for letting us play through as you are working on the greens as we pass but also for the hard work you guys do.The staff in the clubhouse have been some of the friendliest staff I have met they are always very helpful to everyone whoever they are dealing with.
It makes our trip to playing our round of golf that little bit more special you do a great job thank you..Most people who visit this course appreciate the hard work put in by all the staff.I know you might get the odd person who will disagree but as far as I am concerned you could not do much better well done to you all..
