What the club says: Found on the outskirts of Preston in the heart of Lancashire, Penwortham prides itself on being a friendly club and welcomes both members and visitors alike.
Nestling on the banks of the River Ribble, the gently undulating parkland course provides a fair and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities and even a less than memorable round can be quickly forgotten as you relax and unwind in the inviting and comfortable clubhouse.

Played for first time for ?25 and well worth it. Great condition and interesting layout. Was pestered by some lady members as they had put us out just before them and they were all playing two balls. But think that was a pro shop error.

Some greens
Played yesterday afternoon and managed to sneak an 18 in. Actually just joined as a member as well due to it being 5 mins away. The course was in great condition and the greens were easily the best I've played since summer. Everyone was super friendly on the course and in the clubhouse. Great club. We had a golf day there and they looked after us really well. Course played really good, especially after some heavy rain in the days previous.

I was a member for many years. The course has had remedial work to get the drainage right but sadly it's suffering again. In the winter months the greenkeeper regularly closes the 'bottom land' (3 holes) + the 12th due to boggy conditions underfoot & to prevent damage to fairways and greens. I have been informed that expensive & expensive drainage work is planned which may further impact on holes open, temporary greens etc. So in Winter I'd check how many holes are open before you book?? Friendly club & a pretty course - shame about the drainage problems???

Nice course, well laid out but needs to be played many times before you know where to hit shots. Many holes appear not to reward decent shots, or maybe that's just me! Greens sloping and tricky it was hard enough gauging the pace of them! Overall lovely course and facilities but not a favourite.

Played this course in open team event. Friendly welcome in clubhouse, tasty food. Course in good condition, drying out nicely. A few areas obviously suffered from the very wet winter months. Greens true, hard to read. Some long par 4s off back tees. Always enjoy playing Penwortham.

Have played this course a few times now and never fails to disappoint. Clubhouse and pro shop friendly. Course in good condition for time of year, greens not too quick but true. Some good holes, need to be fairly straight to score well as many tree-lined fairways. Will always come back for sure.

Very poor day because of the incessant rain. Difficult to play anything like decent golf and impossible to take in the course as all we saw was rain!

Played this course few times before and always enjoyed it. Was a little disappointed with condition of some fairways, bare in places and greens which were a bit "fluffy" but still gave a decent roll. If not played Penwortham before, always worth a round, some decent holes, especially the finishing par 3, uphill towards the clubhouse two a very large 2 tiered green.. Staff and members as friendly as ever.

Over the last 24 months the course is constantly improving; played it several times. The new green keeper is making this course a real gem. Played there at the weekend and the greens were fantastic as were the fairways. Noticed that drainage is being installed on some of the bunkers - more improvements.

Always like playing Penwortham as it is always in great condition, greens true, fairways lush. Friendly welcome by staff and members a like, good food. The course is quite tight in places, tree-lined fairways. A couple of short par 3s and par 4s but tricky greens not always guaranteeing a birdie or even par. Well worth a visit for sure.
