What the club says: Mitcham Golf Club is unique with its moorland turf which makes it one of the driest courses in the country and is playable all year round. It's a natural course with trees and bushes that shut out the busy world that surrounds the common. Skilfully placed bunkers makes this course a very challenging Par 69.
The course itself offers a stiffer challenge than it might seem upon initial inspection of the card. Designed with shot-making strategy in mind, the course demands accurate approach shots and consistent putting. With natural hazards and challenging greens the course invites competition for all skill levels.

A decent course so close to London. A good variation of holes, with a few tree lined and very narrow. Greens had been cored so were not up to there usual standard. A bit of criss crossing but you do not overly feel you are on top of each other.Reviewer Rating

Great fun
First time back at Mitcham for 5 years or so and really enjoyed it. Not a long course but plenty of interesting holes, and course conditioning was very good though we were lucky to arrive the day after their club champs am sure. The clubhouse is old school but fine. Warm welcome from the pro and barman but lists of rules everywhere you look, which felt unnecessary and out of keeping in the 21st century tbh. Will return for sure.Reviewer Rating

Strange layout, good maintenance.
Course currently in its best shape, but still quirky. Four holes in middle of round bordered by railway, surrounded by longer holes longer holes (1,2,5,10,13,14,17). #18 imposible for a shorter hitter like me.Reviewer Rating

Mitcham GC. A great course hidden away in urban SW London
Not played at Mitcham GC before and invited to play in the Seniors Open, so rude not to accept. The entrance is a little strange, through the car park of Mitcham Junction BR car park, but simple enough using google maps. The clubhouse is an old style 1920's-1930's building with the history that comes with it, but with some modern touches. The locker room is updated, with new showers and facilities. Very nice. Pro-shop is small, but has all you'd need. Practice facilities are OK. Fairly large putting green, 2 small driving nets, but didn't see a chipping area. The course itself is a challenge. Classed as an inland links, Mitcham definitely lives up to that. The teeboxes were a little uneven, but not as bad as some I've played. Rolling links fairways with plenty of slopes and contours that give you shots with the ball in various positions around your feet, if you manage to keep your ball on them. Due to the weather they were very dry and the grass was straw-like, just like most courses at this time. The greens were well tended and were quite quick, with some subtle breaks and slopes. A good test. There are some good holes that make you think about shot selection. My favourite holes, (and if you play, yours will probably differ) were, the 4th a shortish par 4, a sweeping left to right dogleg, across the tramway to the short par4 6th, with a pond to the front left of the green, the par 4 7th with OOB all down the right and a copse of small dwarf trees guarding the green, the 10th, par 5, another sweeping dogleg, but right to left, the 11th a long-ish par 4 that tempts you to go for the green, if your drive finds the fairway, the 15th a tight drive to a narrow fairway the sweeps away to the left and the 18th a long-ish par 3 with trouble in front of the green for mis-hit shots. Hospitality of the members and staff were excellent with a special mention to John Botting (Seniors Chairman), for organizing a great day, to Mitcham GC member Peter White, who was in our group and guided us around the course pointing out dangers, etc, to General Manager, Dennise Coker who managed the clubhouse and staff superbly and to all the bar and catering staff who were both helpful and friendly. Mitcham is a good course that is well worth a visit. I will be returning to see how it plays when the course isn't so dry.Reviewer Rating
