What the club says: Banstead Downs is a downland course built on chalk. It has a reputation for being an "all year round" venue and rarely is the course unfit for play. The course has been designated an area of Special Scientific Interest because of the natural flora and fauna. The fairways have a natural undulation and good definition.

Nice tight course.

Enjoyed a round here. Tees in good nick, fairways too. Greens been dressed and filled and running true. A bit slow maybe. Also quite dry so bouncing quite a bit. Overall a nice course

Two days down pour course still playable.

Played on a Sunday afternoon following two days of heavy rain. The course was closed in the morning but opened in the afternoon. Given the weather the course held up ok. A couple of bunkers were flooded.

Generally the fairways were in good condition, but unfortunately some tee boxes were full of divots and the greens were quite bumpy and a few where also patchy.

Decent long course with some pretty holes and challenging greens in terms of borrow/speed. Excellent practice facilities although the greenside bunkers were pretty devoid of sand. Wide enough to hit driver on most despite lines of trees/woods. The course involves crossing a busy dual carriage way twice , quite scary but not noisy despite proximity of roads.

Great winter option

Truly excellent greens & still only minimal signs of winter. Very enjoyable round & a course that especially appeals as a Braid.

dog walkers everywhere

dogs are off the lease and roaming everywhere ... in front of the tee box just before you smash driver and pooing on the verges. Not really much of a golf course if this can't be controlled. Shame because greens are v good.

Considering we had a loads of rain before we played, this course was near bone dry. Amazing drainage and superb greens. Nicely laid out and every hole is different. Plays pretty tough off the whites. Look forward to playing again.

Classy downland course - very enjoyable

This James Braid designed course has elements of some of his classic Scottish courses, playing fairly firm and fast even after a summer of rain. It is a tight course, bordered by thick trees and bushes so you need to be fairly straight off the tee but get the ball in play and you can probably score well. I was a bit wayward off the tee and was punished with lost balls. YOu can come off here feeling beaten up if not being sensible off the tee.
Greens needed a cut but they were very consistent and steady. Definitely a course I will rush back to play. I had never played before and made some poor decisions with choice of club off the tee. Don't expect to play lights out first time you play here but some course knowledge will help with repeat plays.

Nice course

First time visit to Banstead Downs and enjoyed it. Some fun holes, especially the two driveable short par 4s but overall I felt the course is a little featureless and layout is a bit repetitive. However, the conditioning was quite good, with good fairways and greens. The interest comes from some steep false fronted greens, undulating fairways and some deep bunkers attractively framed by thick rough. I can imagine it gets pretty fast and firm most summers as it was pretty firm still with all the rain this year. Tempted to say it's not the most challenging course but I did play my best golf in years, so probably not an entirely reliable viewpoint.

Nice pro shop, friendly enough atmosphere, fast paced round (midweek twilight), warm up nets and decent chipping and putting practice areas.

Crossing the road halfway round at rush hour was interesting to say the least!

Would return but plenty of other courses I want to try first. Good value at ?30 with a County card. Wouldn't pay ?50 though.

Best this winter

Been playing a different course each week in the SE with a limited budget & this has been so the best. Fairways excellent. Greens the best. To get a degree of summer roll after the wettest Feb on record speaks volumes. Not surprised they had 2 Socs ahead of us though & shame this slowed us down enough to get the Kitchen Closed 2 minutes ago message but will def def go back. Young?s beer on tap too.
