Course now a local nature reserve

A lack of users meant the council couldn’t afford to keep this open. Sadly the other public par 3 course, at Messingham Grange, has also closed. Best becoming a member of App Frod Par 3 or going as a guest

This course is DEFINITELY in LINCOLNSHIRE. Kingsway golf course in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire matches the 11 hole card. I will conceed that there is a Kingsway Course in Cambridgeshire, but this isn't it. Anyway onto my review.

I recently found out that this is not a golf course exclucisvely. I recently made a complaint to the North Lincolsnhire Council about people walking their dogs on the golf course and letting them defficate everywhere. Apparently Kingsway Golf Course is a public park where anyone can just step on and walk. It just so happens that there is a golf course in this park. This makes the course lose MANY points in my opinion. The Council did tell me however, that dog fouling fines still apply and anyone witnessing this should report it.

The greens are disgustingly slow and bumpy. Four of them are bare with hideous brown patches and mud. The second hole is just a joke. It is 200 odd yards up a 60 degree hill. It is almost physically impossible to land a ball on the green in one. It also slopes to the right so if you bounce the ball on the hill, it will kick right in to the out of bounds trees. Where it is very unlikely you will find your ball. This will destroy your confidence because even if you hit the ball well, you will be chastised with three off the tee.

The tee boxes are muddy with bare patches. And if you are lucky enough to find grass in the tee boxes, you will find that it is between three and five inches long.

The fairways however are okay. So make sure you find them on the par fours. Otherwise you will not experience the only acceptable parts of the course.

There is a little shop to buy refreshements and some new, lesser known brand, bottom of the range clubs. This is also where you pay your green fee. Or should I say local "full of dog excrement" park fee?

The toilet is well looked after though. So to get the most out of your fee, make sure you drink lots of water or have a massive meal before hand so you can experience the only other acceptable part of the course.

To the credit of Kingsway Golf Course, it is a good place to learn the game, or even practice. But a lot of work needs to be done to make it acceptable to all. If there is a group on almost every tee, you will be waiting a VERY long time. Most of the players there have no idea of golf ettiquette (due to them only learning), and they are very bad golfers so make sure your patience is in full working order.

This is a pleasant little course, ideal for beginners or more experienced golfers who fancy a practice. Mainly par 3's, several tricky particularly the second. The course is run by the local council and unfortunately suffers from lack of maintenance. The greens are patchy and bare and the grass on the fairways can be too long at times. Yes, the course is used by dog walkers but I've never had any problems with them or dog mess.

A short mainly par three course. Ideal for rookies or a practice round.
The seventh hole through the trees is a corker.

Actually there is a Kingsway in Scunthorpe (Lincolnshire) although it is an 11 hole public course, (no driving range or clubhouse)

If there is one thing I know about this golf course, it is that it is not in Lincolnshire. It is in Cambridgeshire, near Meldreth.

The second is a little over 150 yds not easy but far from a joke, my mate robbo holed in one. Easy to be critical of a short course which the council starve of funding. The course is well pain out and fun to play. If you are looking for corporate golfing heaven perhaps go elsewhere. If looking for a return to golfing roots give it a go!

I never thought that I would use this service as I didn't expect to see Kingsway, my local muni, here. You should be aware that this is now an 11 hole course. Two extra holes being added in 2005. Is there some way I can send you a score card to confirm this.
