Hilly, friendly, interesting, challenging municipal course in Shropshi

Hilly, interesting, challenging municipal in Shropshire. Great place to play golf particularly in the summer (beware of our wet winters because it can be boggy esp on 2nd nine). Good value, friendly place with a nice little bar. Great golf as lovely views, some quirky and challenging holes!

2 slightly different 9 holes on the Shropshire Hills

2 9 hole courses called the Telford and the Wrekin. Prefer the first 9, probably a bit more interesting. 2nd one is very challenging, but a bit of a slog. Good value for money and friendly staff. Nice little coffee bar open till 5pm. Good parking. Can't fault it really.

Not the greatest course around but at ?300 for a year's 5 day membership, it makes golf very affordable and accessible.

A very windy day. Counter staff were preoccupied with other people not part of the complex, were friendly enough when serving though. Last time I played here the greens were really bad, this time they were absolutely great.

Typical council course

This is run by the council, the greens were inconsistent speeds, spongy and lumpy. The fairways were fairly well maintained, the 1st rough good, 2nd cut brutal. There are no yardage markers or yardage books available so if you don't know where the greens are located it can be a challenge. Mondays there is no food available. The pro is rarely there as he is also pro at another course.

Shropshire Hills and Superb!

Up on the top of the Shropshire Hills and can get a bit gusty. Lovely course, beautiful greens. First 9 challenging with hidden hazards. 2nd 9 longer and continues the challenge. Great to play and not too exhausting either! Nice clubhouse (unfortunately on the Monday we played, the bar closed at 5). Really enjoy Horsehay!

The first 9 (Telford 9) are tricky with lots of think rough and changes in elevation.
The back 9 (Wrekin 9) are a more traditional layout, with some good par4s for scoring and a superb par5 to finish.
Both are good challenges in themselves - I would personally love ot play them both twice as 2 separate 18s, but that is just me!
Will defo play again

A real surprise and really enjoyed!

Great course, friendly staff, interesting variety of holes and landscapes. Never played before and really impressed. Plus it's a municipal run by the council and it's really well kept. Worth another visit!

I telephoned to book a tee time as a single player, for the morning of September 30th. The Lady I spoke with on that call, was both courteous and efficient! When I entered the clubhouse, I wasn't sure who and where to approach. There were 'people' to my right as we entered, who "looked" to be in a 'club' meeting, but I had to approach them and ask who I see to pay for a tee-time. A young lady responded that she would do that for me, but it would have been nice if I had been approached first. After my round, the Catering staff were much more courteous and efficient.
I acknowledge that it was very much off-season, but for first time players, there was a regrettable absence of any guidance around the course, from hole to hole. When no tee was visible, or when more than one tee was visible, guidance to the next tee was a necessity. Arriving at each (strange) tee, there was no identification of tee number, or formation about the hole. For first time players, information on the direction of play was desperately absent. This was applicable to both tee and green. Two Seniors followed me onto the course, but as a single player, they very quickly disappeared from sight. I didn't encounter any other players on the course.
I was very pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course.
My comments are not presented as criticism, but to be helpful in giving a stranger's experience.
I live in Cornwall, and a new Grandson brings us to Ironbridge. I look forward eagerly to playing your course several times a year.

Brilliant course, great value too!

Horsehay is a challenging course with great views over the Shropshire countryside. Interesting layout, makes great use of the topography and a pleasant change for the up and own courses where it's often difficult to differentiate holes. Friendly staff, great unfussy clubhouse with excellent food. Highly;y recommended

Simple but Effective

Most challenging aspect is the long meadow grass defining each hole. Very easy to lose a number of balls even if you note the entry point. Bunkers are very shallow. Having said that there are some interesting and challenging holes and this course is excellent value for money.
