What the club says: The setting alone is inspiration enough at Hever Castle’s 250 acre 27 hole course. Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, dates back to 1270. In 1903 William Waldorf Astor acquired the Castle and gradually added to the estate. In the 1920s the Astors created a nine hole golf course for their personal enjoyment, set around the Hever Castle lake and land to the north of Hever Castle, which survived until the Second World War when it was sadly abandoned.

Great course but need to sort out drainage pdq

Considering the cost of the members fees, the drainage must be a priority in the coming year. Very wet underfoot and not very pleasant to play at.

Swamp like conditions

Our society played the Boleyn Course (Princes nine and the front nine holes of the Championship Course) and can only describe the course condition as unplayable, nearly every fairway shot was completely plugged, the tee boxes were terrible, just a horrible experience. The championship course was much better so not sure they can blame the weather? Would only play this course in the summer months. They should have warned our society about the poor conditions before taking our money or at least give the option of changing courses.

A very attractive golf course

The Ashdown Golf Society played on the main course last week. Considering the amount of rain that had fallen the course played very well. The greens were excellent. Always a pleasure to play at Hever, we will return.

Wonderful course, punishing if you are playing badly.

Course in great condition. Greens true but not fast - disconcertingly slow. Overall though a fantastic day out. Practice facilities are Ok rather than good. Food / Bar is good.

steeped in history

Fantastic setting next to Hever Castle. I played the championship course which is great! the only thing it lacks is imagination! don't get me wrong there are some beautiful and challenging holes, but all the par 4,s you need to hit driver, I never had to think what club shall I use to avoid a hazard, just smash it off the tee with the big dog.
There is also a 9 hole course which looks good

Duff tees

Golf is difficult enough, why compound the difficulty by having terrible tee boxes. Surely one of the easier parts of the course to maintain. Yet 90% of the tee boxes are either slanted lett or right and a good many of them are rounded. Fix that and your course will be a 5 star

St James’s Golf Society

We play Hever Castle every year on the Championship course and have always found the staff very friendly and facilities great. This year we had 32 players and the course was good, plenty of grass on the fairways and the greens were excellent. Some doggy pin positions, but I’m putting that down to the green keeper had a bad night sleep. Well worth the money and the drive

Great course in great condition. Was missing something to make it feel really special for me when paying £29 twilight. Holes 11-13 are outstanding, was by far the best section of the course.

Championship course still needs alot of work

The tees and greens on the championship course are not very good. Found almost none of the mens tees where flat or level, either bowed or slant left or right. Greens bobble all over the place. Difficult to rely on the path when you know at any time the ball will bobble and move of line .
Pace of play is really bad. When are clubs going to learn that 8 minute tee slots are not enough time for a 3 bal or 4 ball. We had to wait at every hole from the 4th. On the 8th there was a 3 ball on green and another 3 ball waiting to tee off. That was a 10 minute wait.
Not ideal and there are much better courses in the vicinity

Super venue, super course

Great course in great condition - holes 11-13 of the Championship course are spectacular and I\'d happily play them on repeat!!! The Princes is well worth playing too - some lovely holes. Great venue for a society.

Smallholders Golf Society

Had a great day, shame it rained during the back nine, however no one was put off regarding the wonderful course. Greens were in excellent condition only a few tees had a number of divots which needed repairing. The marshal that day was a great help to all and especially myself when, in his buggy he went back to retrieve my wedge which was left against a tree. Many thanks to the staff, who were very helpful and friendly. We will be back! Brian Snoswell
