What the club says: The setting alone is inspiration enough at Hever Castle’s 250 acre 27 hole course. Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, dates back to 1270. In 1903 William Waldorf Astor acquired the Castle and gradually added to the estate. In the 1920s the Astors created a nine hole golf course for their personal enjoyment, set around the Hever Castle lake and land to the north of Hever Castle, which survived until the Second World War when it was sadly abandoned.

Course being prepared for the winter so fairways not in the best shape. Greens were good though. Clay based so gets very muddy, and after only a couple of days rain, that was very obvious. It is a lovely course but I would recommend only visiting in the summer.

Could be better

Visually, this is a lovely course, but it ought to be so much better. Greens are fantastic, but the fairways are pretty poor to be honest, Drainage is clearly a major issue. A September round and the fairways are covered in sand and new drainage lines and not very well cut, So there are some fairway shots that feel and look like they're from light rough. Maybe we were unlucky with the timing, but I wouldn't want to be paying the money they're asking for a round if it had rained in any significant volume.
The bar staff also need a lesson or two in hospitality.

A welcome return

Considering the rain, the ground was soft but not too soft. Greens even. Plenty of drainage points and bunkers were mainly GUR. A lot of work been done to the course in the 4 to 5 years since we last played here. All good. Some uneven tees but on the whole definitely worth the visit

Best round

Course is currently undergoing quite a bit of work, improving drainage, bunkers and course layout, that being said it was a real pleasure to play. Probably a bit biased as I had the best round I've had in quite a while, but the course played really well. Bunkers that were in play were generally in good condition. Fairways well cut and looked after, greens had been hollow timed recently so we're very receptive, playing reasonably true. Some very interesting long holes and dog legs, made for a great round.

I played the championship course which on the day was damp so there was not a lot of run on, obviously not Haver's fault, but the course is very long and thus you end up taking more shots than you wish. Everything was in good condition especially the greens. A big and comfortable club house and plenty of parking. A little bit out of the way to find but worth it when you get there. Staff were excellent.

Lovely venue and course

Visited Hever yesterday as a 4 ball . Clubhouse is lovely and the staff were very hospitable. Breakfast food decent. The course is a treat to play . Every hole is different and so good on the eye. Front 9 gives you a chance before the back 9 really tests you but with some great holes and beautiful scenery. Bunkers are being redone and the new ones were very nice to play from. Some water hazards add to the fun. Course was presented in very good condition yesterday. Well worth a visit .

Great course in good condition

Hever Castle Golf Club - Championship Course: played on a hot Summer's day, when the course was in great condition. The rough was punishing and a good chance of losing balls if you go in it. Hole 13 should be stroke index 1 IMO, with water all the way down the left and trees on the right to punish any stray tee shot. Staff were very friendly and helpful and did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our day.

Long course, hard work when wet

I love this course, but after weeks of rain it was waterlogged. Standing water and mud featured on at least half a dozen holes. (Nothing the club can do about it.) Greens were still fast and true. Long course though, even off the yellows. Lots of staff at the evening dinner and at the bar. Good practice facilities. Definitely will play again.

Shocking State

I can't believe what a state HCGC has become. I played it probably 5+ years ago and it was enjoyable but it has since fallen into disrepair. Mats on every tee, horrendous muddy conditions on all holes has greens that are covered in pitch marks. What a disgrace and the owners should be ashamed of the way this once premier course has been allowed to deteriorate obviously through lack of investment. How this place has any members I don't know because to pay close to £2000 to play this place must mean they have more money than sense.

Not in the top 10 for Kent

Golfshake need to update their review.
The place is a disgrace for the price you pay. Tees out of shape and bare, I recall work done on a few tees a few years back, didn’t last long. Bunkers washed away, no drainage, balls pluging on fairways. Members are entitled claiming to have tee times when they don’t.
Greens look good but run very heavy. I played here 4 years ago and recall how the fairways were in decline , but the rate it is happening should worry the owners.
To be fair the kings course is very boring, no stand out holes, the queens is the saving grace for layout.
Poor course with decent facilities , the staff are okay. The pro shop people are not the fastest to assist. A discount should be given when the course is in the state it’s in.
All in all for the money - I would not return. Possibly only decent to play for a few months a year.
NO WAY NEAR TO A TOP 10 GOLF COURSE IN KENT.

I received a voucher to play at Hever for my birthday. I travelled from Berwick upon Tweed and the long journey was worth it. The staff in the shop could not do enough to make me feel welcome; it was a delighted to be with such people. The clubhouse served good food and the course itself was challenging in a good way. There were well situated bunkers and ponds to keep you concentrating throughout. The course was not too busy and you able to enjoy the experience in a relaxed way. We stayed at Hever Castle and we intend to return to the course and the castle next year. Thank you for making my birthday treat so special.

Played 18 holes on Princes

Princes is the third of three nines, with Kings and Queens (two other nine holes each) comprising the "Championship" Course. I play Hever once or twice a year, (and used to play much more in the late 90s) and I think Kings and Queens are great courses. They were closed for maintenance so we played 18 holes onj Princes which I haven't played for 20 years. It was in very poor condition with scruffy (bare) tee boxes, just mats on the second hole. Some bunkers were GUR but more neglected than being worked on. There are a couple of feature holes which are interesting and I thought the greens were in good condition, although pretty slow. I wouldn't play Hever again if Princes were included ; it is a good place to practice but not worth paying for.
