What the club says: Established in 1885, The Hesketh is the oldest club in Southport and is regularly chosen for Final Qualifying when The Open arrives across town at Royal Birkdale. Part links and part parkland, the distinctive challenge of the course is that half of the holes meander through tall sand dunes, while the other half border the Ribble estuary. Some of the best holes lie between the sandhills and the clubhouse, particularly the 18th, an impressive, lengthy finishing hole.

Society day

Played this course a couple of times with a Society and it never disappoints.
Great layout and always in really condition giving a proper challenge to pretty much all skill levels.
I would definitely recommend giving the place a try.

Course is good with some challenging holes. A few blind shots which isn’t great on your first visit. Staff were friendly and service a good. Would definitely play again and would probably appreciate it more second time round.

Great

Lovely course and very narrow in parts. Straighness off the tee is a must around the course. Great day

Outstanding and difficult course

I have only played this course twice, the first was a number of years ago when I didn't appreciate it for what it was. Having played a couple of quality full links courses this year I really enjoyed the challenge that the holes around the clubhouse offered. Those across the road are tricky in places and the entire course was in excellent condition. The greens were hard fast flat and difficult to read in places. Highly recommended

Much better around

The course is ok, but it thinks that it is in the same league as other local courses such as Birkdale. The 17th hole is an abomination, maybe time for a new green keeping team. The club house is the best part of this place. Lovely building but in need of some modernisation. The paths around the course also resemble the roads of an Uzbekistan Village, don’t fall down the pot holes.

Very bland boring course except for 7 links holes. Definitely not worth £80, maybe £20 at best.
Do not book as part of a package with the ther local courses, as you will be very disappointed.
Rubbish practice facikities. I play of 13.

Quality on the golf coast

Well as ever Hesketh didn't disappoint. I've played here a few times but not since the reshaped 17th fairway which is still work in progress and could do with some signage for newcomers to the course as in distance and direction. I do believe it will overtime become a fantastic feature of what is a deceptively challenging course. The greens were in perfect condition as they always are and be advised you need to be accurate when driving off the tees and on some holes it's advisable not to be too greedy as it will suck you into all sorts of trouble. I absolutely love this course in my back yard and is up their with Hillside, S&A etc. Make a point of seeking this fantastic gem out.

Enjoyable links/parkland layout. In overall good condition. 14th and 15th lovely pair of holes. Greens were very good in mid May. Condition of some fairways average still recovering from last summer. Grass driving range is a bonus.

One of the best

Played with a Society and it's fair to say that Hesketh GC is a level above courses that I have played previously.
I didn't play particularly well but enjoyed every single hole & will definitely visit again.

Great course

Considering we played at end of march and the weather has been very wet for a few weeks leading up to it, the course has stood up to it unbelievably. Very challenging in places and accuracy over distance takes priority. Well worth a visit.
