What The Club Says

Finchley is set in the grounds of an imposing Victorian stately home that has served as the clubhouse for more than 70 years. The panorama below shows the view from the Veranda of the clubhouse, where you can relax and enjoy a drink and some food after your round while watching the action on the 12th, 13th and 18th holes.

The 6,356 yard, par 72 wooded, picturesque, parkland course is recognised as the finest challenge of golf in London. Designed by five-times Open winner James Braid, his short, uphill 12th hole, "Braid's Masterpiece", is one of the best known par threes in the south of England.

tough, hard fast fairways, slick greens

Finchley Golf Course in the current state has fast running hard fairways and slick undulating greens. The layout of the course is very challenging, especially the closing 5 holes.
keeping on the fairway is paramount.

It feels like the course has been hit by the hardest winter. Fairways had been as bare as I’ve seen them & the dry weather has left them anything but lush. More bare batches away from them too. Meanwhile the Greens had none of that great pace of previous summers, indeed they seemed slow & maybe the lower cuts were yet to come. I can only say it’s worth dipping back to later in summer when I’m sure it will be back to its best.

lovely surprise i the heart of London

Course conditions are quite muddy requiring a fairway mat to be used.
Greens are quite slow and soft due to extreme winter conditions.
The course flows very nicely with a good variety of challenging, tight fairways, then par 5's
that are achievable, par 3's have a nice variety of short and long holes.
Still an enjoyable winter round.

Having played here often enough, the course has ways been of the highest standard during summer with lush fairways & rapid greens but the recent dry weather has really hindered recovery from the ravages of use over winter & there are too many bare patches on the fairways where it’s still pick up & place until July, but especially near the greens & plenty of really poor lies were evident. The back 9 was better but in its current condition be prepared to be disappointed with what you get for what the visitor is being charged & suggest deferring your trip to July. It’s still a great course but it’s worrying how wet it gets in winter & summer play isn’t yet compensating that.

lovely surprise i the heart of London

Finchley Golf club is a well maintained golfcourse with tricky greens and fast, tight fairways.
Accuracy off the tee is paramount.

Always an enjoyable Braid designed course with open but tree lined fairways. Good challenges. Fairways recovering well from winter & greens approaching their prime. Certainly the best I’ve played this year.

1st signs of Autumn as the ground is getting heavier & the greens are slowing down. Fairways are holding up but there are more muddy areas off them. Still an enjoyable Braid course .

Greens super fast

Well laid out course, lots of trees and challenging holes. Played in glorious conditions yesterday. Super fast greens, luckily played with a Member whose course management helped make it an enjoyable round
