Highly Recommended 2018
What the club says: Close House Golf Course was originally built as a nine hole course in 1964 by Newcastle University for the use of staff and students and was extended to 18 holes in the early eighties.
The Lee Westwood Filly course layout was re-designed and re-opened in June 2013. It now has 18 USGA specification greens, is over 6000 yards in length and a par 70 from the medal tees. The undulating greens provide a real test for your putting skills, but accuracy off the tee is paramount for good scoring, Having already held its first PGA Professional event the course has proved challenging to golfers of all abilities.
The par 71 Championship Lee Westwood Colt course measures 6813 yards and spans 160 acres of the Tyne Valley. Renowned golf course designer Scott McPherson carefully planned the course around existing woodland to fit with an intended old fashioned design. After 4 years of being open the course has been voted into the Golf World Top 100 Courses of Britain & Ireland.

Get a course planner and a buggy
Roller coaster of a course. There are some holes (e.g. 14th) where you just don't know what you are facing unless you have a course planner (there are no pictures on the tees - unlike the filly). Its a course you come off thinking i'd love to play that again now I know what's going on.

Great course
Great condition and greens fantastic. Quite an incline on a number of holes so not for the faint hearted.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 104 Handicap: 26.2)

A proper golf course
Lovely fairways, cracking views and difficult greens.

Great location, great facilities

Two great courses you need to play

Your paying for the name
Clearly a very well manicured course which is very expensive to play . You are paying for the prestige of playing here as the greens are nowhere near as good as a lot of cheaper courses I have played on this year. Parklands and Linden Halls greens are much superior to these.(Round played: Jul 2019 - Score: 104 Handicap: 20.7)

Great golf, amazing accommodation
The package here is hard to beat, we have now been for the last two years and always love the accommodation and food/beverages. The golf courses are both lovely, funnily enough we preferred the Filly to the Colt, not even sure why. Professionalism in the range and clubhouse is superb and if they added a spa I would be back more often. Certainly worth a go.

colt course
fantastic place to visit and stay ,Colt course excellentonly downside price of the beer ,but when your here ona deal who cares

great course gem of a course

Got to play it!
Yes it?s a course still living off the British masters in 2017, but it?s definitely worth playing. I got the tee at a reduced rate through work so not sure if the full price. But to say it was March the course was in fantastic condition and will only get better for the summer.

A must visit venue
Our second trip - 2 rounds with an overnight stay and breakfast for ?99 is amazing value for money considering the quality of the courses/facilities. The restaurant (service/food/drinks) for our evening meal has always been first class.

Slightly Overrated but great nontheless
The second half of a deal we had to cancel due to bad weather in March, so as true quality hosts would, Close House rescheduled this particular round for us till the middle of season in June - Brilliant. However, it corresponded with the England V Panama World Cup tie which (moving the tee time any golfers in our group who wanted to could watch the game) meant that after a lllooonnnggg round timewise (the course seemed very full and groups were being released off of the first tee every six minutes which meant backlogs on many of the tees) and a two hour drive back it was incredibly late by the time I got home.
As for the course and facilities - facilities are absolutely superb, from the driving range, through to the car parks, the rooms to stop over in and the bar/veranda, clubshop area - all top notch.
The course - was very nice too, as you'd expect from a venue such as this, fairways were true, as were the greens - so much so it was very easy to give the greens a little too much respect, think about the putt for far too long then play the putt too tentatively. Three putts plus were common. There was sand in the bunkers which players could play out of too. All in all it was very good as we expected but as an individual not quite as excellent as I thought it should've been. I just felt that maybe Close House was slightly over-hyped and overrated due to the British Masters being held there last year.
With this in mind I would say that there are courses we (as in our society that do these trips) have played that we have gotten on similar deals that I would return to before Close House given a straight choice between the two (Rockcliffe and Ramside are two examples).
All that said - over the two day deal we all had a great time on a great course with superb facilities and are taking greater numbers back with us for a similar deal next March.
(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 94 Handicap: 15.4)

Hilly but good

Challenging Course
If you can stay out of the ever growing rough this course is a great challenge for every level of handicap golfer especially when the wind starts to blow.

Two great courses worth staying and playing

Exceptional course
A wonderful course everything about the place is first class. The colt course has to be a contender for the best in the UK
