What the club says: Measuring nearly 6500 yards and a par 72 from the medal tees, you have to make the most of the first five holes at Garesfield before the course begins to ask questions - it might pay to warm up properly and hopefully, by the time you reach the sixth tee a good score is already on the card.

Great course

Haven't played at Garesfield for over 10 years, and really wondering why as it's a beautiful course. Not too long, but tight in places, with lovely tree lined fairways.

My wife and I played this course once by ourselves and then twice with younger family members over a period of a week. Everyone enjoyed the course, the friendliness of the members who we spoke to, both on the course and in the bar afterwards.

Great value, on winter greens but didn't spoil it. I needed to get out. After all the adverse weather it was good enough, and great value

Great course

Garesfield is tucked away on the edge of Chopwell Woods, it is a cracking course with a lot of challenging holes. Very picturesque with some great views of Newcastle/Gateshead from the higher tee boxes.

This is a very varied course with every hole a different challenge. There are some long par4s which demand accuracy as an errrant shot is often punished by plenty of gorse. you need to plot your way around carefully as there are a few blind shots. The greens are well kept as is the course generally. All in all a welcoming club with excellent facilities. Well worth a visit!

Tried this course last week. Staff very friendly, but the course is a strange one. You need hiking boots as oppose to golf shoes with hills to help you sleep, and there is no direction on where any hole is.
This course is definitely one for the more experienced!!!

The first thing to accept with this course is that its cheap to play (18 holes or joining as a member), so you can't expect a high level course for low cost.

Having played the course last week, I think the best word that describes it is 'inconsistent'. No two greens played to the same pace making it impossible to 'get your eye in' with the putter. Green keeping must be done sparingly as the fairways were baked and rock solid, while many of the greens had huge cracks indicating significant neglect.

A couple of par 5's at around 460 yards leaves you a bit puzzled when you reach the par 3 18th at 180 yards (about right for pro golfers, but for club/bogey golfers? I'm not so sure).

A nice club house with attentive staff, good food and drinks show that this is a club with a healthy amount of hidden potential. Give a well qualified and experienced greenskeeper a couple of years to work his or her magic on the course and this could be a challenging but rewarding £20-£30 per round course with top value for money.

Overal, I'd say its a course with lots on hidden potential

A very pleasant place to play golf. Lovely countryside all around. The course is classic parkland with trees and streams all around to contend with. All the holes have some feature without any being spectacular. In short if you want a very enjoyable game on a sound well kept course, which always gives you something to think about and has some very tricky greens, get yourself to Garesfield.
