What The Club Says

Cleeve Hill is a magnificent heath land course located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. From a commanding position in the Cotswolds, breathtaking views are available over an area taking in the Forest of Dean, Severn Vale, the Malverns - and beyond to the Black Mountains and the Brecons.

Set in 1,000 acres of Cleeve Common, the truly awesome vistas from the course embrace 10,000 years of human occupation - with prehistoric and Roman settlements punctuating a landscape rich in wild flowers. Rare orchids, the Roman snail and various species of butterfly bring added fascination to the scene. For golfers about their business, the setting is idyllic, inspiring and refreshing.

Great test of golf but tired facilities

Rugged inland links course, 30mph winds and a good variety of hole designs made for a testing round. However, pro shop, club house and putting green facilities are tired and devoid of any obvious investment. Overall a unique test of golf but a real shame that the course is not being backed up to create a memorable all round experience that would make me want to return.

It's one of life's true pleasures to play this course on a clear spring day... The course is in great condition... the new management regime is working well. Yes it costs more to play here than it did in the past but IMO worth it!

always amazing

Just three of us today and a splendid game teeing off into the mizzle and sometimes thick fog. Course ran smoothly and true.

As nature intended golf to be....

First time for me at Cleeve Hill. I couldn't believe that it faced closure just a few years ago. Old Tom's layout stands the test of time in all weathers- yes, we had all four seasons during our round. Wonderful elevated tees and few bushes and trees offer the novel experience, for me, of being able to find your ball fairly easily. We finished in glorious sunshine elated but exhausted!

Can't beat this course

This course has wonderful views around Gloucestershire from all the tees. The course is in marvellously good nick. Plus, the variety of challenges presented to us over the course are amazing. No two holes are the same!

Must have golfing experience

This is old school golf played at an improving venue with far sighted management and ownership. From the depths of possible closure to a reinvigorated set up. I had never heard of the venue until the campaign to save it and I have them made it a priority to experience the courses in all its glories. Painted stone tee markers plus yardage markers Jean from granite this is not manicured golf. Usually the common is mown and managed by the sheep that free roam with greens protected by small fences. This is an astonishing venue with views over 5 counties in a clear day. Green complexes have been created from medieval castle grounds and history oozes over shot. There are a couple of blind shots but they are well sign posted. Greens are true and fair with protections built into them by the courses designers. I loved the Cleeve experience and cannot wait to return to test myself again. There are loads of local pubs and hotels nearby making a two day trip easily achievable. 100% recommend a return visit. If you are interested in golf course architecture this is a must play venue. I LOVED IT

Exposed to the wind. Some excellent holes. 2 tough par 3s on the back 9, one after the other. Well worth a visit.

Four of us set out at 10:30 on a windy but dry day and had a wonderful entertaining walk around the course ending at half three.

consistently brilliant experience

Well we were blessed by some fantastic weather 22 degrees, no wind, clear skies, free parking. The greens were perfectly manicured and the fairways, as always, well cut and free parking.
