Much too good to close

Hearing that Broke Hill was going to close on 31st Dec, I was intent to get there and play it before it vanished forever. With just two weeks to go to closure, I was expecting a course that would be unkempt, run down and in just about playable condition, but whoa what a lovely surprise! From the friendly girls upstairs in the well appointed and large clubhouse, and the very good breakfast to the lad in the pro shop, who couldn't have been more helpful, albeit with an empty shop. The courses starts with a couple of straight-forward par fours and then returns clubhouse bound with a strong Par 5 and then a Par 3. The first five holes are all fairly flat and straightforward but the 6th is the first really strong hole, this being a 437 par 4 with a blind drive and then doglegging left. Be very pleased to get on in regulation here and is very worthy of its Stroke index 1. This is followed by a short but delightful par 4 at 355 yards where you are advised to aim at the marker taking the mounding and two bunkers on the left of this slight dogleg left. The first half finishes with a strong and quite long par 5 where the approach has to avoid a pond close to the green on the left. The back nine starts with pretty standard fare and is still quite flat but the meat of the course starts at the par 5 12th, which whilst not that long, has an awkward and wide ditch at the bottom of the small dip. This is followed by another delightful but short par 4 where care has to be taken both left and right, and then the 14th, where the tee overlooks a rolling fairway which veers to the right. To me, the most attractive hole on the course is the Par 5 15th, where the drive is blind to a marker and a falling fairway which then turns left and uphill to a well protected green. The final hole is a little tester as the green is fronted by a large pond.
Overall, a very pleasing and easy walking course, maybe with too many shortish par fours but overall very enjoyable. For the middle of December and with the course closing for ever in just two weeks, the greens were short and true, the fairways perfect, and best of all, the bunkers had obviously been raked that morning - that surely is dedication to the end by the staff.
Why is this popular and profitable venue closing - ha, who knows, but I suspect it is something to do with it being sold for huge profit for building - I shall say no more, but what a shame to the 500 or so members and all those who have played here since opening in 1990. For such a young course, it has the appearance and feel of a course much older - it shall be missed.

Excellent course.

Not played here for many years and it's become a really good course. Greens receptive, fairways in really good condition, bunkers with enough sand in them. Warm welcome in the pro shop and bar. Some really good holes on here, the par 5 15th is a stand out.

tricky greens if you're beyond the pin, putting downhill! Generally a tighter, shorter course. Approach irons important.

Very fast greens but difficult to read. Lots of water on fairways after heavy rain and some parts of fairways requiring repair but still a good course to play

A course in good condition. Well maintained tee area, and beautifully kept greens.
The greens were tricky but an enjoyable round of golf.

Never played Broke Hill before but was pleasantly surprised. Tougher than it looks with greens quicker than average. Played here as a 4 ball , great offer of £140 plus breakfast and buggies!! \

Loved it, the new tees look great though they make the old ones look a bit shabby! Greens were brilliant though difficult to hit out of the thick rough, my fault I guess. I got to play off the whites as a single figure handicapper and that really makes a difference to the difficulty. I Look forward to playing it again soon.
I found the staff very friendly and helpful.
