The Acanthus (previously known as Shirley Wood) is an interesting course. It is in fairy poor condition at the moment, particularly the greens. It has the potential to become a superb beginners course, with the reasonably wide fariways and banked edges. It is also quiet, which can be an advantage for beginners. The clubhouse is excellent and has recently opened (September 2007), with a good pro shop and cafe area along with a restaurant.

There is a two-tier driving range, although there is a ban on using drivers on the top tier at the time of writing (December 2007).

Green fee's are around £13 for 19 holes and £9 for 9 holes. There are winter reductions in place at the moment as every hole has winter greensin operation.

Drove to Acanthus this evening as an alternative to the Manor driving range and the range wasnt even open at 7.30pm..... No notification on the website whatsoever.... There's no point having a fancy clubhouse if your not going to update your website and let potential customers know the current status of whats on offer....not how you survive through a recession....shoddy
