What Makes Amendoeira Golf Resort a Must Visit

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 15 Nov 2022

Located within the Monchique Mountains of the Algarve, the spectacular Amendoeira Golf Resort has become one of Portugal's most glittering jewels. Featuring the dramatic Faldo Course (designed by the legendary six-time major champion) and the tranquil O'Connor Course (laid out by Ryder Cup hero Christy O'Connor Jnr), this destination is quite the paradise retreat for visiting golfers.

Set in 270 hectares, this incredible property is easily reachable from the UK and elsewhere, as Amendoeira is just 40 minutes away from Faro Airport.

Previously, Golfshake visited Amendoeira in 2019, an unforgettable experience that we captured in our Review & Stay/Play Video, but it's about time that we reflected on what you could discover by venturing across to a true gem.

Amendoeira Apartments

Those staying at Amendoeira can choose between modern apartments that are all fitted with a fully equipped kitchen and large lounges, or the beautifully designed villas for bigger groups that notably feature stunning infinity swimming pools.

Whichever option you select, these facilities are perfect for relaxation and to enjoy the magnificent climate at your own pace, seeing as the accommodation is self-catering, meaning that Amendoeira can feel just like a home away from home during your time there.

Golf Courses

Faldo Course

Previously named Portugal's Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards, The Faldo Course at Amendoeira is a fabulous, thrilling challenge for even the most seasoned of golfers. It's a test - but a rewarding one blessed with memorable visuals.

Golfshake Review Verdict: "The Faldo is a stunning golf course, and a real credit to Sir Nick and his team. Its design is clever, and really makes you think about the shots you need to make to put together a good score. Not to mention the superb vistas that will be discussed for a long time with your playing partners."

Likewise, The O'Connor Course has much to offer and is the ideal companion layout, requiring accuracy with your game but also the attention of your eyes to take in the wonderful scenery.

Golfshake Review Verdict: "Alongside the strategic Faldo Course, the O'Connor Course is a fine complement, designed by former Ryder Cup player Christy O'Connor Jnr, this layout boasts various water features, featuring lakes that provide both an appealing aesthetic and stiff challenge throughout the entire course."

Additionally, Amendoeira is home to a 9-Hole Floodlit Academy Course - making possible the magic of Night Golf!

Restaurant & Bars

While the accommodation is self-catering, there are several meal options available, including the acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, the bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as the sports club offering snacks and drinks.

Pre-golf and post-golf drinks can be enjoyed at the clubhouse while you take in the view looking out over the two superb golf courses.

Things to Do

Away from the golf and the honest pursuit of relaxation, there is much to see and do at Amendoeira and beyond. Make sure to discover the beautiful beaches after your round or travel to the historic town of Silves, which is home to the most well preserved castle found in the Algarve.

For those who love exploring and relish a taste of adventure, you can enjoy boat trips, dolphin watching, surfing, scuba diving and water sports. There are also opportunities for hiking, cycling, flying, paintballing, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding. Also, the venue offers two swimming pools, tennis courts, two football fields, a sports club and gym as well as a kids club - so when we say there is something here for everyone, we really mean it!
