Phil Mickelson Praise for Abu Dhabi Golf Club

By: Golf Shake | Thu 16 Jan 2014

Host venue of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Abu Dhabi Golf Club has had its international reputation affirmed by one of the world’s most popular golfers, Phil Mickelson.

Starting his 2014 season in the desert, Mickelson was full of praise for the all-round offering at Abu Dhabi Golf Club after his first practice round of the week; “They really have a terrific test of golf here in immaculate shape with great practice facilities…We’re here with great weather on a course that can really identify your strengths and weaknesses, and it is just a great place for all of us to get started.”

The internationally-renowned Troon Golf-managed venue has developed into one of the premier European Tour venues, highlighted this year by a stellar field headlined by World no. 5 Mickelson, current Race to Dubai Champion and World no.2 Henrik Stenson as well as Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Golf in Abu Dhabi ambassador Matteo Manassero.

“The Championship has grown in stature over the years and once again we are hosting some of the biggest names in golf.  The team has worked tirelessly to get the course into the best shape of the event’s eight year history and to have that reaffirmed by some of the world’s best players is praise of the highest degree,” said Group General Manger Chris Card.  “The course is Championship-ready, the greens are running smooth and quick.  The fairways are somewhat narrow and shaped perfectly.  Andrew and his team should be acknowledged for their work.”

Now in its ninth year, the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship is set to welcome a record crowd this weekend to see some of the world’s best golfers compete for their share of the total prize fund of $2.7m.  A number of spectator facilities are on offer for the 2014 Championship including luxury viewing platforms, an interactive Championship Village and a host of food & beverage outlets, which ensure this years’ championship is the most impressive so far.
