Pardy Heats Up on Gtour at Wokefield Park

By: Golf Shake | Wed 22 May 2013

pardyJustin Pardy continued his recent good run of form with a win at De Vere Wokefield Park on Saturday 18 May.

After a top-ten finish in the previous event at De Vere Wychwood Park, Pardy battled the brutally hot conditions and the tough Wokefield fairways to post a magnificent 42 points which was good enough for a three point victory.

Scoring only one point or less on only one hole,  that being the tough par-3 17th Pardy scored consistently all the way around carding three gross birdies to help him on his way to the title.

Jups Sidhu was one of five players to break par on the day finished runner-up with 39 points ahead of Matthew Doonan (38), Alun Jones (37) and Graham Miles in fifth with 37 points. Tied on level par 36 points were Matthew Wabe and the consistent Christian Osborne. Gregory Arding finished with 35 points tying Nikki Lewis and completing the top-ten was the winner of the two previous events and the man who currently sits a top of the 2013 Order of Merit standings, Michael Goodwin.

For Pardy it was a case of second time lucky on a course that suits his game: “I knew I had played well here two years ago and came second but fourth on a count back with 41 points so I thought it would require a high score.

“When I chipped in on the 11th for a “3 for 4” I suddenly thought I might actually have a chance of a really good score until my next shot – tee shot on the par-3 12th, 8 iron, over water which somehow I managed to thin 15ft off the ground all the way over with the help of the leprechauns that had followed me round so far to keep it out of the water! My playing partners started to talk about winning etc which only made my nerves worse. I dropped a shot on the 17th thinking I needed par on the 18th to get 41 points but then birdied the last to walk off with 42 points which turned out to be enough to win.”

With his win Purdy moves into second place behind Goodwin in the Order of Merit standings and was the first player to take home a GoKart Golf Automatic Trolley from the new tour sponsors.

The Gtour bus next rolls into Moor Allerton Golf Club in Leeds which is one of the best and toughest tracks on the tour circuit. To register and have a chance of qualifying for the 2013 Race to Cyprus visit www.gtour.co.uk
