New Wilson Staff Ball Longer and Softer Than Ever

By: Golf Shake | Thu 21 Mar 2013

5428-wilsonWilson Golf has revolutionised its popular Wilson Staff Dx2 golf ball with a new version for 2013 that is even longer and softer than before.

The new 2-piece ball has been completely re-constructed to provide golfers with ultimate soft feel around the greens, higher and consistent ball flights and three yards extra in distance. “This is the softest distance ball available – it’s longer off the tee and softer round the greens than any other ball on the market,” said Doug Wright, Commercial Director for Wilson Golf in Europe.

At 40 Compression – the lowest of any ball available to golfers in the UK – the Dx2 Soft has a significantly lower Compression than its nearest rivals and 10 points less than the original ball that became one of the most popular golf balls played by regular players over the last five years. The reduction in Compression results in an even softer feel and improved playability around the green.

Meanwhile, a distance increase of three yards from the previous model can be attributed to an 8% larger, Rubber Rich core that allows for decreasing Compression, whilst maintaining a high COR (Coefficient of Restitution) of 0.81. The rubber core has a 96.3% purity level – a 5.1% increase – while a thinner, higher Resilience Cover also helps to produce more ball velocity off the clubface.

New Dx2 Soft ball

The new Dx2 Soft ball also delivers minimal spin off the driver face to help improve yardage, but progressively higher spin rates on approach shots give optimal control. A new seamless 302 dimple pattern produces a more consistent flight, while an Ionomer cover generates high-lift characteristics on tee shots and long approaches from the fairway.

“The DX2 Soft set high standards when it was introduced in 2007 as the softest two-piece ball on the market, but the new version raises the bar even higher,” said Mathias Lundblad, who heads up the Wilson Golf ball team in Chicago. “Extensive testing has advanced the low compression technology to appeal to players wanting length off the tee and softness around the greens.”

The Wilson Staff Dx2 Soft ball will also come in a new Tour Yellow version and in a new Wilson Staff Lady Dx2 Soft. Available from March 2013, the balls come in a stylish new packaging and will have a RRP of £17.99 per dozen.

DX3 Soft ball

The Wilson Staff DX3 Soft ball, which offers similar feel but with enhanced spin, has also been upgraded and is now softer than any other multi-layer golf ball. The new 302 dimple pattern on the ball optimises distance and improves flight performance.

Designed from the inside out, the 3-piece structure of the Dx3 Soft provides exceptional feel and low spin off the driver thanks to the rubber-rich inner core; greater velocity and distance performance due to the DuPont HPF inner mantle layer; and high spin and control on approach shots created by a softer cover. The Dx3 Soft has a RRP of £19.99 per dozen and is also available from March.
