LET star Carlota Ciganda secures OOM and Rookie of the Year

By: | Thu 13 Dec 2012

Ladies European Tour Rookie sensation and Callaway Staff Professional Carlota Ciganda has set her sights on making next year’s European Solheim Cup team after a stellar 2012 that saw the Spanish starlet become the first player for 27 years to claim the ISPS Handa Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year titles in the same season.

The 22-year-old from Pamplona now wants to build on her incredible first 12 months on the LET that saw her win two tournaments, the Deloitte Ladies Open in Holland and the Suzhou Taihu Open in China, and finish in the Top 10 on a further 10 occasions.

“Now the season has ended I have time to reflect on what has been a great 12 months. I want to think about next year and I’d love to take my form from 2012 into the early tournaments, and also challenge for a place in Europe’s Solheim Cup team,” said Ciganda,

Ciganda's history-making equipment included RAZR Driver and Fairway Woods, RAZR X Forged Irons (4 – 6); RAZR X Musclebacks (7 – PW), Forged Wedges (52°, 56° and 58°), Odyssey ProType Tour Series #9 Putter and HEX Black Tour Golf Ball.

As a reward for her achievements, Carlota also secured a €20,000 bonus and 10-year exemption to the LET. She was also voted the Players’ Player of the Year by the LET members.

Impressive and consistent tournament stats underpinned Carlota’s landmark season, including a scoring average of 70.5, hitting over 80% of greens in regulation and racking up a total of 204 birdies, more than any other golfer on the LET.

Neil Howie, President of Callaway Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “Performance is at the heart of every product we produce and in the hands of a player like Carlota, it proves that Callaway consistently helps to create ‘winners’, whether it’s on Tour, or in a Sunday four-ball amongst friends.”

Prior to turning pro, Carlota enjoyed a hugely successful amateur career, winning the 2007 British Amateur Championship and 2004 and 2008 European Championship. She was also a member of the 2006 and 2008 Spain World Amateur Team; 2005 and 2007 European Junior Solheim Cup Team and 2004 and 2006 European Junior Ryder Cup Team.
