Wonderful Watney Trusts Titleist for Victory at the Barclays
Titleist Press Release
Full line Titleist player Nick Watney relied on the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and a full bag of Titleist equipment to claim his fifth career PGA Tour title at The Barclays. The American captured the first tournament of the four-event FedEx Cup Playoffs by closing with a final round of 69 to finish on a 10-under par, 274 total. The win promotes Watney to the head of the FedEx Cup standings ahead of this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship. Watney was joined in the winner’s circle this week by fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Darron Stiles (Pro V1) who was victorious on the Web.com tour, along with four further wins for Titleist golf balls across worldwide professional tours.
Watney trusted Titleist equipment from tee-to-green to take the title, including the Pro V1x golf ball, 913D3 driver, 910F fairway metals, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, and Scotty Cameron putter. With the win, Watney becomes the second player on the PGA Tour to win with the new 913 driver, following fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy’s record breaking win at the USPGA Championship with the 913D3. A total of 21 players put the 913 D2 & D3 drivers in the bag at The Barclays. Titleist golf balls were the overwhelming favourite of the field at the tournament with 83 players (68%) putting their trust in the legendary Pro V1 franchise, more than six times the nearest competitor with 13. Titleist was also the field favourite in the iron, wedge, and putter categories.

Titleist dominated the golf ball counts at Gleneagles, with 100 players (64%) putting their trust in the #1 ball in golf, over five times the nearest competitor with 18. On the Web.com tour, Titleist Brand Ambassador, Darron Stiles trusted the excellence of Titleist equipment from tee-to-green to claim victory at the News Sentinel Open. Stiles fired a final round 67, en route to a 18-under par, 266 total, to finish one shot clear of Pro V1x loyalists Scott Gardiner, D.J. Brigman and Nicholas Thompson.
Elsewhere, on the Champions Tour, Jay Don Blake (Pro V1x) won the Boeing Classic by toppling fellow Pro V1x golf ball loyalist Mark O’Meara with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden death playoff. On the Canadian Tour, Pro V1x loyalist Eugene Wong, holed out from the fairway for eagle on the 72nd hole to earn a dramatic victory at the Canadian Tour Championship, and claim his first career victory in just his third start on the tour. There was a further victory for the Titleist Pro V1 golf ball on the LPGA Tour at the Canadian Women’s Open. These victories take Titleist’s 2012 worldwide golf ball win count to 118, compared to 13 for the nearest competitor.
