Roth Reigns at Moor Allerton

By: Adam Smith | Mon 04 Jul 2011

David Roth won his first Gtour event of 2011 and the second of his career with a stunning display of golf at Moor Allerton Golf Club.

Roth’s performance was on par with the rest of the day as fantastic weather shone above what is one of the best courses in the Gtour calendar.

His 42 point total was enough for a four point victory over Phillip Edmondson who was playing on his home course.

Edmondson must have thought he’d done enough after playing some superb golf himself. Playing off three a round of 72 gross gave him the clubhouse lead on 38 points until Roth playing in the final group came in with 20 points and the back-nine to add to his 22 total on the front nine.

Roth, who spent eight months out of the game through injury, was just delighted to be back playing and to get the win:

“I started off well but was waiting for that moment when it goes horribly wrong. After nine holes and being four over I felt really good. My target at the start of the day was to beat my worst score this season which was 24 points after nice holes, I was on 22 points.

“I still didn't expect to win because my thoughts were that if I could do well then I'm sure the better player's would also score well.

“But in the end I was pleased to get my second victory.”

The win took Roth to 21st in the Order of Merit - Race to Cyprus and is pretty much certain to make the semi-final in November at De Vere Belton Woods.

Edmondson rises to fourth with Steve Watson still sitting on top.

The next event on Saturday 16 July at Manning's Heath Golf Club and then 20 August at De Vere Dunston Hall where incidentally Roth is the defending champion.
