Hannah Green is the most in form golfer in the world

The men's world rankings currently list Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick as the leading three golfers on the planet, and it's hard to argue with that given what that trio has been doing of late.

However, in the women's game, the picture is less obvious. The admirable Jeeno Thitikul - the best player out there without a major title to her name - sits at the summit of the Rolex Rankings, with former number one Nelly Korda in second place.

But you have to glance a little further down to find Australia's Hannah Green - in fifth - who is the form player in the game right now as we prepare for the first women's showpiece of the season at the Chevron Championship.

The 29-year-old from Perth has put together an extraordinary run of results in recent weeks across three continents.

After claiming her first LPGA victory since 2024 at the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore, Green returned to her homeland and clinched both the Women's Australian Open and Australian WPGA Championship. This all happened in March.

That made Green (whose mother was born and raised in Fraserburgh in Scotland) the first home player to win the Australian Open since the great Karrie Webb - and all three successes saw her accompanied by husband Jarryd Felton, a pro golfer himself, in the role of caddie.

"It feels really amazing - it's been a really crazy month and really special to be able to do this in Australia," Green said after lifting the Australian WPGA.

Returning to the United States, and reunited with her regular caddie, Green missed the cut in the Aramco Championship at the beginning of April, but that proved to be only a minor blip as she responded by winning a playoff over Sei Young Kim and Jin Hee Im on Sunday to secure the JM Eagle LA Championship in Los Angeles for the third time in four years.

Winning four times in five starts, in different corners of the globe, is a startling achievement and makes Green among the favourites at the Chevron.

It was back in 2019 when she became a major champion at the Women's PGA Championship, but that was a long time ago and performances in the biggest events have flattered to deceive since that breakthrough moment at Hazeltine National.

Across 15 majors played in 2023, 2024 and 2025, Green's best finish was a tie for 12th and there were eight missed cuts in that sequence of results too.

Many will expect Green to correct that underperformance this week at Memorial Park in Houston, but Nelly Korda might be a rival when it comes to who has played the best golf during the early months of 2026.

The two-time major champion has played in four LPGA tournaments this year, winning the first, and finishing runner-up in the other three.

It would be quite a spectacle should the first major of the season come down to a battle between the two standout players of 2026.
