Former Masters champions target further Augusta National success

It really is that time of year again. There is nothing quite like the Masters, with the invited field preparing once more to drive down Magnolia Lane to experience the majesty of Augusta National.

2026 marks the 90th edition of the tournament that has defined generations of champions and provided a lifetime of memories for golf fans worldwide.

The world's best players will be competing for the Green Jacket, with this remarkable sporting occasion being supported by Rolex, who have been Tournament Partner since 1999.

Given that the event returns to the same venue each year, previous history there means a lot, and that's what the likes of recent former winners Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, both Rolex Testimonees, will be hoping to count on.

Scottie Scheffler

Two-time champion Scheffler, who won in 2022 and 2024, claimed both the PGA Championship and the Open last season, and will be drawing on the inspirational emotions he feels when he arrives at this most iconic of golf courses.

"I think the feeling that you get and the gratefulness of being able to achieve a lifelong dream is so special. It is just really fun to put on the Green Jacket, and when you go back the next year, you get to host the Champions Dinner and do all the things that you have dreamed about. Going from being a little kid learning to play the game to winning the Masters is a truly humbling experience."

Should he win for a third time, the world number one will add his name to an illustrious list of fellow Rolex Testimonees who have won the Masters on more than two occasions. Jack Nicklaus leads the way with six, followed by Tiger Woods on five, Arnold Palmer on four and Phil Mickelson and Gary Player on three.

Rahm also has the opportunity to become a multiple Masters winner. The Spaniard (who has looked in great form this year) triumphed at Augusta in 2023 and will attempt to repeat the feat after first joining a group of golfing greats at the Champions Dinner on Tuesday evening.

Jon Rahm

"Playing at Augusta National Golf Club is the most special feeling in golf," says Rahm. "Since the Masters takes place at Augusta National every year and Tuesday night’s Champions Dinner is a tradition, for me this moment is always going to be hard to beat. To be among a list of Rolex champions such as Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Scottie Scheffler is fantastic. Being able to spend time with them at the dinner is amazing and makes for a unique evening."

Speaking of Nicklaus, the greatest champion in Masters history, it's extra special as he will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of his sixth Masters title in 1986. Aged 46, he became the tournament’s oldest winner, coming from four shots back in the final round.

Nicklaus is a key figure in Rolex’s enduring relationship with golf that began in 1967, and centred on an association with Palmer, Nicklaus and Player. Known as The Big Three, they popularised the sport worldwide and the brand’s partnership with the game has grown and flourished ever since.

They also remain part of the fabric of Augusta National and the Masters Tournament.

Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm - with Rolex behind them - will be hoping to further etch their own legacies here.
