The golf challenge you need to take on this year
If you are a regular visitor to Golfshake then you are likely among the keenest and most passionate of golfers - and we have a challenge for you to take on this year.
The chances are that during your lifetime, you will have known someone who has suffered from prostate cancer. This is now the most common form of the disease that is diagnosed in the UK and golfers have taken a prominent role in the fightback against the condition by raising money to help fund research that could help to save more lives in the future.
First launched back in 2020, The Big Golf Race has been a remarkably successful initiative created by Prostate Cancer UK. Since its establishment, more than 10,000 golfers have participated, raising over £6 million in the process, which has directly supported projects such as TRANSFORM, the most comprehensive prostate cancer screening trial put together in 20 years.
Whether you're a first-timer or been a regular, 2026 can be your opportunity to use the power of golf to make a difference.
Danny Willett, who was the Masters champion a decade ago, is a supporter of Prostate Cancer UK and has encouraged golfers like you to get involved with The Big Golf Race this season: "The Big Golf Race has really captured the imagination of golfers across the UK. We’ve seen young golfers, golf professionals and golfers on YouTube picking up their clubs and saving lives with every swing. The impact golfers are making for men affected by prostate cancer and their families is incredible - and I hope this year’s challenge is the biggest yet."
But what does the challenge entail? You can enter three distinct formats, which vary in terms of sheer ambitiousness:
- The Half Marathon - you will play 36 holes in one day
- The Marathon - complete 72 holes in one day
- The Ultra Marathon - take on 100 or more holes in a day
Those who sign up to become part of The Big Golf Race in 2026 will receive a special fundraising pack, which includes Titleist golf balls, tees, pencils and a helpful fundraising guide, alongside digital tools that will make it easier for you to track progress, build teams and climb the fundraising leaderboard.
It's a moment to test your stamina and golfing endurance, but also to engage with friends and support a great cause.
However, beyond that, for added motivation, you can benefit in other ways as every golfer who raises over £300 will be entered into a prize draw to secure a once-in-a-lifetime golf trip to the spectacular Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus.
That's a venue Golfshake Ambassador Andy Picken had the chance to experience last year - and he absolutely loved it.
But the chance to push yourself to your limits on the course - and contribute to a initiative that has had a transformative impact on the battle against prostate cancer - is something that we're certain that many of you will relish.
The Big Golf Race is waiting for your entry - let's get started today!
