ProQuip Aqualite Pro & PROPAC-LITE Review: Lightweight Waterproofs

The golf clothing market is a highly competitive one, with a number of serious players now vying for our business. One of the leading brands is ProQuip.

Before getting into the products, it’s worth highlighting what this Scottish company is doing off the course.

It has been proven that playing golf on a regular basis is good for our mental well-being. There have probably been times when you would disagree but it is beyond dispute that being out in the fresh air in the company of like-minded people can only be a good thing. If you doubt this I would suggest that you walk into any clubhouse bar and listen to the laughter and banter.

ProQuip

Cognizant of this, ProQuip has pledged to donate directly to Mind, the leading UK mental health charity, for every PROPAC-LITE rain jacket sold globally. Each sale will benefit Mind’s advocacy and campaigning work, helping ensure that people experiencing mental health problems can access the support and services they need.

PROPAC-LITE rain jacket

ProQuip Propac Lite

The PROPAC-LITE range is ProQuip’s ultra-light, packable and more sustainable option. The rain jacket weighs just 263g and packs neatly into its own pocket, making it perfect for slipping into a golf bag or travel holdall.

It’s made from evoPel recycled polyester, using renewable materials and plant-based oils to protect against rain, mud and dirt. In short, it’s performance golf clothing that’s kinder to the planet. The fabric is super-soft, durable, highly breathable and has plenty of stretch, so it’s comfortable for athletic movement and suitable for multi-sport use as well as golf.

Despite its featherweight feel, the PROPAC-LITE jacket is 100% waterproof, with taped, heat-sealed seams and a three-year waterproof guarantee. It’s a clever blend of practicality, comfort and conscience.

Available online from £120 and remember ProQuip donates directly to mental health charity MIND; as part of it's Lighten the Load campaign.

Aqualite Pro jacket & trousers

Aqualite

I have also been using the Aqualite Pro jacket and trousers.

So the first thing you need to know is whether or not they are waterproof. They are! And are guaranteed to be so for three years. Clearly, it you look after them they are going to last a lot longer than that.

The first thing that will strike you is the obvious quality of these garments.

The Aqualite Pro jacket is ultra-lightweight and made from a premium soft-feel outer fabric that is stretchy and breathable, for comfort and freedom of movement. It comes with waterproof zips, side adjuster tabs and a shock cord drawstring. In other words, there is no way the rain can get in. It is guaranteed to be 100% waterproof.

The fabric is super-soft, durable and highly breathable. The ultra-stretch fabric and inner lining are specifically engineered for comfort, athletic movement and multi-sport use. I have played this game long enough to have had to endure waterproofs that restricted your movement but this jacket is as light as a feather. It is a delight.

The Aqualiite rain trousers come with a three-year guarantee and, again, are guaranteed to be waterproof. Like the jacket, they are fully machine washable. They are super-lightweight, breathable (meaning you won’t sweat while wearing them), have waterproof zips and have a PU coated outer shell for robust water and wind proofing. That means they will not only keep you dry but warm too.

Both jacket and trousers come in a variety of colours and, together, retail at around £200. Considering the build quality, three-year waterproof guarantee and the comfort on offer, ProQuip’s Aqualite and PROPAC-LITE ranges represent excellent value and in the case of PROPAC-LITE, you’re also supporting a very worthwhile mental health charity.
