What is Rory McIlroy's Record at The Masters
This will be Rory McIlroy’s 17th start at The Masters. It is a tournament that he should have won on a course that is made for him.
He made his debut in 2009 and finished in a tie for 20th and the following year he missed the cut.
It was in 2011 that he should have secured the Green Jacket but he suffered one of the meltdowns for which this golf course is famous.

McIlroy shot a bogey-free seven-under-par 65 in the first round to take the lead. At the time, he was the youngest player to lead The Masters at the close of the first day. On Friday, he shot a 69 to lead by two strokes over Jason Day with a 10-under-par score. On Saturday, he shot 70 to finish at 12-under-par, four strokes ahead.
However, on the fourth and final day, he shot the worst round in history by any professional golfer leading after the third round. He scored one-over-par 37 on the first nine but still had the lead, but then it all fell apart and he finished with an horrific round of 80, finishing tied 15th. To his credit, two months later he romped home to win the US Open. It seemed that it would only be a matter of time before McIlroy won The Masters.

In 2012 he was one stroke off of the lead going into the weekend but struggled in his last two rounds and finished in a tie for 40th.
He finished tied 25th in 2013 before recording his first top-10 finish the following year when he tied for eighth.
He had his best finish at the time in 2015, finishing in a tie for fourth. And three more top 10s followed in 2016, 2017 and 2018 when he finished tied 10th, tied seventh and tied fifth respectively.
He had found a level of consistency but despite that he did not seriously contend in any of those years.
In 2018 he teed off in the final group with Patrick Reed, who led by three. Instead of making a charge, the Northern Irishman could only manage a 74 and ended up six adrift of Reed.
In 2019, the year that Tiger Woods produced his miraculous comeback win, McIlroy was part of the supporting cast, completing the week in a tie for 21st place.
The following year he flattered to deceive once again, this time finishing in a tie for fifth place. He missed the cut in 2021 and 2023 but sandwiched in between was a second place finished in 2022.
In 2022 he shot a superb bogey-free 64 in the final round that saw him jump from a tie for ninth to finish as runner-up, holing a bunker shot at the final hole. But he had left himself too much to do and Scottie Scheffler claimed the first of his two green jackets.
And in 2024 he was tied 22nd.
In 16 starts at Augusta, McIlroy has had seven top-10 finishes and missed the cut just three times. It is the tournament he needs to win to complete the career grand slam.
