Walker is King of the Castle

By: Adam Smith | Fri 22 Oct 2010

Gary Walker (4) continued his recent fine form to win the final major of the year at the Manor House Golf Club Castle Combe.

The Aphrodite Hills Open is one of the highlights on the tours calender this year and the standard of golf certainly proved that everyone was desperate to win the fantastic prize that was up for grabs.

Business Development Director of Aphrodite Hills, Andreas Vasiliou was on hand to present the prize of a three night stay with two rounds of golf at the fantastic 5* resort in Paphos, Cyprus.

" My congratulations go out to all who took part." Said Vasiliou as he presented Walker with the winners the prize

"I was so happy that I was able to be personally present at The Manor House Golf Club and meet the Gtour players.”

Walkers second win of the year has put him in contention for the Order of Merit going into the final event in a few weeks time. A win a Slaley earlier in the year along with two top-three finishes has put him in a strong position for the 2010 crown.

“To win this event and the Holiday was just the topping on what was another fantastic day." Said Walker.

"I'm really looking forward to the trip to Aphrodite Hills and sampling some of that Cypriot hospitality." He added.

“My thanks go to Andreas from Aphrodite Hills for putting up such a fantastic prize and to Colin and Simon for yet another brilliant day and of course all of the other players who make up this Tour.”

Tour Director Colin Astbury was delighted with how the day went and also the Tour this year:

"2010 has been a fantastic year for the tour and our penultimate event, the last major of 2010 was no exception.

"It was very fitting to hold the Gtour Aphrodite Hills Open at Manor House Castle Combe, the course is one of the UK's top 100 and set in very beautiful surroundings with the rise and fall between tee and green on many of the holes mirroring what would be in store for the eventual winner.

"We are delighted to have partnered with Aphrodite Hills and would like to thank Andreas Vasiliou who presented the prize on the day. Our congratulations go to Gary Walker on his win, hopefully his holiday next year doesn't clash with any of the 2011 tour dates."

The tour now moves to De Vere Staverton Park for the final event of the 2010 season with four players still able to win the Order of Merit.
