10 Picks to Win The 2023 Masters

By: | Mon 03 Apr 2023

This year's Masters is hotly anticipated considering the brilliant form of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, in addition to the extra dynamic of LIV Golf players such as Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Brooks Koepka being determined to contend for that coveted Green Jacket.

Having first shared his outsiders to choose from, Golfshake's Derek Clements has given us ten picks to win the Masters - and the champion may well be featured below!

Scottie Scheffler

Has reclaimed the top spot in the world rankings after victories at the Phoenix Open and Players Championship before coming within a whisker of a successful defence of his WGC Dell Technologies Match Play title. Won The Masters in some style in 2022 and has a great chance of repeating the feat.

Twelve months ago McIlroy finished with a 64 to claim second place. It was the launchpad for a terrific season but the Northern Irishman is still waiting for his first major victory since 2014 - and that is just too long. Augusta National is made for his game but is he destined to never win here?

Jordan Spieth

Nearly won on debut in 2014, and did win in 2015. He should have claimed a second Green Jacket in 2016. Spieth was in control until he came to the par-three 12th, where he ran up a seven. He loves this place and is in decent form at exactly the right time.

Viktor Hovland

Fabulous young Norwegian golfer. A great driver of the ball and a wonderful iron player. His record in the majors is not great but Hovland is a big-time player with a great future ahead of him. Ignore those who say he can’t putt. He holes more than his fair share.

Xander Schauffele

The American has won everything other than a major. He endured something of a slump but won three times last season and enjoyed four other top-five finishes. He has had a slow start to this season but has shown good recent form.

Patrick Cantlay

One of the most impressive golfers on the planet, with eight career wins on the PGA Tour. Won four times in the 2020-21 season and added a further two wins last season. Plays his best golf on tough courses and is surely destined to win a major. Augusta may represent his best chance.

Jon Rahm

Made a sensational start to 2023 and briefly reclaimed the top spot in the world rankings, but had to withdraw from the Players Championship through illness and looked out of sorts at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play. A wonderful ball striker and a fantastic putter on his day.

Sam Burns

On the crest of a wave after his spectacular performance in winning WGC Dell Technologies Match Play title, where he made birdies for fun. He putted like an angel all week, and will have to do so again if he is win The Masters. Burns is the real deal.

Will Zalatoris

Everybody talks about Collin Morikawa being the best iron player in the game but Zalatoris is right up there. He is so thin that he looks like a one iron, but is deceptively long and finds a lot of fairways. Has a great record in the majors but is unconvincing with a putter in his hands.

Cameron Young

Was on the wrong end of a hammering at the hands of Sam Burns in Austin and has now finished runner-up five times in his fledgling PGA Tour career. But one of those second places came at The Open last year. His time will come - sooner rather than later.
