Golf's Rising Stars - Doc Redman

By: | Tue 21 Mar 2023

Doc Redman is one of the youngest players on the PGA Tour, but he has a very long association with the sport of golf.

Whilst he is yet to record any professional victories, his amateur accomplishments would highlight a stellar career awaiting the American.

Player Profile

The golfer, who hails from North Carolina, showed promise from a very early age, becoming the North Carolina AAAA state champion as a senior.

He progressed to college and decided to join Clemson University, where he was victorious on two occasions, both during his freshman year.

The year of 2017 was a very special one for Redman, who narrowly qualified for the U.S. Amateur after finishing 62nd out of the available 64 places in the stroke play qualifier.

Remarkably, the American would go on to win the U.S. Amateur and finish runner-up at the Western Amateur during the same year.

His reward? Selection for the 2017 Walker Cup. He featured alongside powerhouses such as Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler as the US comfortably won 19-7.

After the conclusion of the 2018 NCAA Golf Championship, Redman decided to declare professionalism and subsequently relinquish his place in the 2018 U.S. Open and Open Championship which was earned through his U.S. Amateur success.

However, he would eventually feature in Britain after finishing runner-up at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic, which issued him an invite into the upcoming Open Championship and Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour.

Redman would conclude his one and only appearance at The Open Championship in T20, a highly respectable position considering the strength of the field.

More success would follow the young professional as he qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs in 2020 but narrowly missed out on the BMW Championship after concluding his year in 71st.

He has since finished 3rd in the Safeway Open and he was one of six golfers who finished T2 at the Palmetto Championship that Garrick Higgo won back in 2021.
