Lexi Thompson Player Profile And What's In The Bag

By: | Mon 17 Oct 2022

LEXI Thompson put a tough couple of years behind her with a three-shot victory at the Aramco Team Series in New York. It is the American’s first win since she claimed the title at the Shoprite LPGA Classic in 2019.

Thompson has battled with mental health issues and took some time away from the game. Although she had struggled to get back into the winners’ circle, she went into this tournament ranked fourth in the world.

In bright and breezy conditions in New York, Thompson held off the challenge World Number Six Brooke Henderson and Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom with a final round of 69 to finish three shots clear on eleven-under-par.

Who Is Lexi Thompson?

Thompson was born in Coral Springs, Florida, on February 10, 1995.

At age 12, she became the youngest golfer ever to qualify to play in the US Women’s Open. She turned professional in June 2010 at age 15.

On September 18, 2011, Thompson set a new record as the youngest-ever winner of an LPGA tournament, winning the Navistar Classic at the age of 16 years, seven months and eight days.

And three months later she became the second-youngest winner of a Ladies European Tour event when she captured the Dubai Ladies Masters.

She won her first major championship at the Kraft Nabisco in 2014, aged 19, making her the second youngest LPGA golfer to win a major. It remains her only major.

In June 2021, Thompson led the US Women’s Open going into the final round. She extended her lead to five shots but came home in 41 and missed out on a playoff by one stroke.

Thompson has won 11 times on the LPGA Tour and twice on the LET. She has also lost in playoffs on four occasions.

After her tie for fifth place at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June 2022 she moved to 10th on the all-time career money list on the LPGA Tour, earning $12,608,045 in 230 events over 10 years.

She is a five-time Solheim Cup player.

She averages 272 yards from the tee, hits 71% of fairways and finds 76.42% of greens in regulation. She gets up and down from the sand 50% of the time, averages 30.34 putts per round and has a stroke average of 69.83.
