10 Picks to Win The Masters

By: | Tue 05 Apr 2022

The 86th Masters Tournament is set to be captivating, with Hideki Matsuyama defending and the competitive return of five-time champion Tiger Woods. But who could ultimately be the man to claim the iconic Green Jacket on Sunday?

Golfshake's Derek Clements has some thoughts - and shares his 10 Picks to Win The Masters!

Credit for all the featured images goes to the brilliant Kevin Diss Photography.

Scottie Scheffler

The hottest golfer on the planet right now, but does he have what it takes to win The Masters? Well of course he does. This is his third appearance - he finished tied 19th in 2019 and tied 18th 12 months ago.

Jon Rahm

The Spaniard has a superb record at Augusta, having never missed the cut here. He finished fourth in 2018, tied ninth in 2019, tied seventh in 2020 and in a tie for fifth last year. Victory here is the next logical step.

Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth

Nobody has a better record at Augusta National than the 2015 champion. Notwithstanding his experience at the par-three 12th in 2016, when he took seven and handed the title to Danny Willett, Spieth simply loves this place

Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland

The Norwegian finished as low amateur in 2019. His progress since then has been meteoric. Still only 24, Hovland has become a serial winner. If you listen to the pundits they will tell you his short game is a weakness but his results tell a rather different story.

Sam Burns

Rookies usually struggle in their first Masters appearance. But Burns is not your typical Augusta first-timer. He is a fabulous young golfer, already firmly established with two PGA Tour wins to his name, and he continues to go from strength to strength.

Shane Lowry

The Irishman hits the ball plenty far enough and has a wondrous touch with both the wedge and the putter. If he is able to hit the ball in the right place often enough, he could surprise a few people this week. And he is in decent form too.

Francesco Molinari

Unflappable Italian has suffered with injury and loss of form but there have been some encouraging signs lately. Should have won in 2019, when Tiger Woods completed his comeback for the ages, and will feel that Augusta owes him something.

Robert MacIntyre

The Scot loves tough courses and finished in the top 12 here last year. Crucially, he is one of the best putters in the game. A left-hander, his natural shot is a right-to-left fade, which should mean Augusta is tailor-made for him. Watch this space.

Garrick Higgo

Garrick Higgo

Another left-hander who, having won on both the DP World and PGA Tours, is not short on confidence. Like most South Africans, he has a great short game and he hits the ball a country mile. May need to curb his tendency to reach for the driver every time because you can’t win The Masters from the trees.

Sepp Straka

With a maiden PGA Tour victory tucked under his belt, the Austrian is not short on confidence. He is an impressive ball striker but is an Augusta rookie and may struggle to master the vagaries of this unique golf course.
