Results from 1st Gtour Major
Gary walker returning for his first event in the 2010 tour took the 1st Gtour Major of the year at De Vere Slaley Hall in the Gtour Srixon Masters. Walker (3) carded a gross 81 for 32 points to claim the title in the first Gtour Major of 2010 sponsored by Srixon.
2nd place went to Kevin King (14) who also took the top spot in the high handicap category and prizes sponsored by Srixon and De Vere.
In a day that saw tough conditions for most of the round with on and off rain, good scoring was hard to come by and more so given the test that the Hunting course posed as it gears up to host the PGA Seniors Championship event from 24th June 2010.
All the players thoroughly enjoyed the event and were treated to a spectacular course in fantastic condition at a venue some describe as the 'Augusta of the North'.
With the scoring hard to come by only 3 players scored above 30 points with Bish Niewola taking third spot with 31 points. Niewola was also playing with the Srixon Z-Star balls for the first time in place of his usual premium balls and said 'I found similar distance as my usual ball but seemed to have more control and feel around the greens - chipping in for two birdies on the back 9 certainly helped the score on the day.'
Top 10 results - 1. Gary Walker (3) 32 points, 2. Kevin King (14) 31 points, 3. Bish Niewola (8) 31 points, 4. Nic Hopkinsons (11) 29 points, 5. David Summerfield (12) 29 points, 6. Liam Roberts (10) 28 points, 7. John Kelford (15) 27 points, 8. Shane Davies (5) 27 points, 9. Neil Beech (9) 26 points, 10. Peter Jones (10) 25 points.
The tour now heads back to De Vere Belton Woods this time to take on the Woodside course on Saturday 26th June.
