ECCO BIOM HYBRID 3 Review

By: | Fri 07 Dec 2018

Recently, Golfshake took a range of winter golf shoes to the stunning Moor Allerton Golf Club to carry out a review day. Several Golfshake ambassadors joined us to try out some of the best shoes available. One of the shoes that we included was the ECCO BIOM® HYBRID 3. Andrew Picken has been trying out the new style for a few weeks now, and he really is the ideal man for the job having owned ECCO golf shoes for the past six years. Not only has he donned the brand’s shoes on the course, but he has also purchased a pair of casual shoes to wear in day-to-day life thanks to the comfort of this golf shoes. Keep reading to find out what he thinks of the latest BIOM® HYBRID style.

ECCO have grown into the golf shoe game in recent years and are now producing some outstanding products. Their increasing presence has been recognised by pros and amateurs all over the world with their footwear becoming ever more popular. ECCO shoes can be seen across the men’s and women’s professional tours on the feet of the likes of Minjee Lee, Ernie Els and Smylie Kaufman.

Tech Specs

Since the launch of the original BIOM ® HYBRID in 2011, the shoes have been constantly evolving and improving. The latest model incorporates GORE-TEX® technology to ensure that the shoe is 100% waterproof which is definitely an important factor for winter. The upper of the shoe is formed from Yak leather which makes the shoe breathable and durable. The brilliant ECCO TRI-FI-GRIP® features three different areas, each with a specific purpose. These zones are focused on stability, durability and rotational support. All of these zones work in tandem to create an outstanding golf shoe, ensuring that the golf swing itself as well as the time spent walking around the course is comfortable and enjoyable. More information about the shoe’s specifics can be found here or at www.eccoshoesuk.com.

Without further ado, let’s get into what Andrew had to say about the BIOM® HYBRID 3.

Looks

"I love the look of the Yak leather. They have a modern look but are still traditionally comfortable. I usually wear a foot orthotic in other shoes but as the fit of this shoe is so good, I was able to wear them straight from the box and for a five-mile round with total comfort."

Feel

"They are light and look funky, but offer excellent grip during the motion of the swing. The sole structure seems to favour the outer aspects on each foot and this created a stable and firm base for the swing."

Performance

"I actually found that they really helped to stop my feet moving around during the swing, which is a real benefit. They are very light but hold the foot firmly and despite torrential overnight rain, I had no problem coping with slopes and wet paths. I have to confess that I have taken to using them as a casual off the course shoe with jeans because they are so comfortable."

Pros

"The looks, style and performance of these shoes are exceptional. The 100% GORE-TEX® lining ensures feet are kept warm and dry whatever the weather throws at you. They are great on and off the course."

Cons

"It’s a genuine struggle to find any faults. Style and looks are subjective so some may not like their more casual, non-traditional appearance. I am more than happy to wear them. Priced at £190, they are not cheap, but these are some of the best on the market, in my opinion."

Bottom Line

"These are my third pair of ECCO shoes and are by far the best. I am a complete convert to the looks and style and they are incredibly comfortable straight from the box. £190 is not cheap, but, these are top-quality and if my first pair are anything to go by I will still be wearing them in six years’ time. I have not often reviewed a shoe product and rated it 10/10, but, I would recommend you at least try them on if buying new shoes for the winter season. I anticipate that I will still be using them in the spring and summer as well."

Rated 10/10
