Golfshake member Mel Davies visited Shrosbee Golf, Shropshire, in November 2016 to check out the facilities and meet with the coaching team. Find out how he got on.

Shrosbree Golf is an Indoor Golf and Performance Centre located between Telford and Shrewsbury which opened in November 2013 by Tim Shrosbree EGTF Master Professional.  The centre provides access to 3 full bays, indoor bunker, putting green and a chipping area.  Each bay features a simulator set-up with laptop and touch screen display which caters for golfers looking for coaching, practise or golf via the simulator hire.

Upon arrival I was greeted by David Wells EGTF Teaching Professional who has recently joined Tim at the centre. David offered us tea or coffee and explained what the centre had to offer. I have been to a couple of swing studios before but was really looking forward to this as its the only one I know of that has an indoor bunker to practise in.

Tim has been teaching for 14 years and used to be coached by Luther Blacklock (Head Professional at Woburn and Inventor/Designer of the Explanar Golf System).  David has recently become a Teaching Professional having previously worked at The Astbury.

The Centre has 3 bays which can cater for up to 12 golfers in total. Each bay has a GC2 Foresight launch monitor with the HMT (Head Measurement Technology), which tracks the club head and provides additional analysis back. The software gives you the opportunity to practise on a range style environment, practise specific shots on holes chosen from the list of 64 golf courses and of course play a round on any of the courses which include: St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Turnberry, Royal Troon, KIngsbarns, Royal Birkdale, Celtic Manor, The Belfry, Oakmont, Abu Dhabi, Emirates, Akron, Doral (Blue Monster and White), Hazeltine and Pebble Beach plus many more. You can choose which tees to play off so if you fancy playing of the "Pro's Tees" and testing yourself go for it!!

Each bay has a touch screen to help line up the direction you intend to go and also after your shot you can see how the strike was including angle of attack, spin, position on the club face that the ball struck and many other great pieces of information. The screens are all HD and wide screen.

Indoor Practice Facilities

As well as the indoor swing bays they have an excellent practice facility with putting, chipping & bunker areas which can be used by golfers for practice or coaching with Tim or David.

The putting area has 6 different hole locations some which are flat and others with subtle undulations so you can test yourself on varying difficulties of putts. Tim designed putting from 2 holes to each other as dead flat and straight and 15 feet apart as this is the ideal distance to gauge the stroke.

The indoor bunker is absolutely superb and a great addition to the centre. You can either use proper balls or the "soft balls".  This was designed so its playable for all levels of golfer and also gives the same shot options to both left and right handed golfers. You can play off a flat stance or off a slope. You also have the opportunity to play an easy(ish) shot over the low part or test yourself over the highest part which was designed to replicate the same height shot required to get out of the Road Hole bunker on the 17th at St. Andrews. Unfortunately I failed miserable attempting that shot!!

You can also play various short game shots in the centre as Tim has incorporated various lengths and lies around the green, you can even brush the "grass" into or away from you!!

Teaching Facilities

Tim and David both provide lessons so if you feel your game needs help these guys can help put your game back on track (or hopefully on the fairways and greens).

There is also the opportunity to have your swing or putting stroke analysed using the Quintic System which gives great visual feedback via slow-mo video or still shots so you can see any faults in your game.
