Guide To The UK's Indoor Golf Centres

By: Golfshake Editor | Wed 01 Jun 2016

Post by Golf Journalist Josh Carr

Thinking about taking up golf, getting more practice or just playing some indoor golf? Well, look no further; here is a round up of best indoor golf centres in the UK.

Indoor golf centres are laid back and look to advertise the social side of golf as well as moving the sport in an alternative, exciting direction. These indoor golf centres are the perfect place to go to help improve your swing while still having a fun time with your friends as well as a great way to take up the game of golf.

Urban Golf

Described as the “Holy Grail” of indoor golf, Urban Golf offers golfers a completely unique experience. The AboutGolf simulators found at Urban Golf are the most accurate, fun and visually stunning available on the market. The aG curved simulator is a must try as the curved screen uses image blending intelligence to seamlessly integrate the output of three HD projectors to give you the ultimate panoramic effect. There’s so much more to do at Urban Golf as oppose to just smashing balls aimlessly into a field at your local driving range.

The two clubhouses, situated in London called Royal Smithfield and Soho G&CC, give you a number of different opportunities. You can have a quiet social game on the simulators with your mates while enjoying an ice-cold beer, take advantage of a lesson on one of the simulators or even get your clubs custom fitted.  The best part is, you can even bring your non-golfing friends and if they don’t like the playing part they can always sit and enjoy a drink in the stylish bars on offer. As there are no rules, it is fully acceptable to goad your opponent without feeling guilty, a truly unique experience you wont find on the course.

On top of the social aspect of Urban Golf, you can also enter some competitions that have outstanding prizes. For example, the winner of the “London’s Best Golfer 2015/16” competition will win a once in a lifetime trip to go and watch The Masters including flights and accommodation all paid for. So if you’re looking for a laid back approach to the game and want to stay warm during the winter, look no further than Urban Golf London.

iPlayGolfUK

Located in Milton Keynes, iPlayGolfUK is very similar to Urban Golf as it offers six simulators that are linked to big screens with 70 full-length courses to choose from. If you want to play in lifelike conditions on some of your favourite courses, you can even change the weather conditions to suit and if you want to bring the youngsters along, you can pick one of the crazy golf courses to play that are also available on the simulators.

On top of just practicing your game inside, you can also take advantage of lessons off a PGA Professional. In the social area there is a bar and a pool table and if you decide to go all out and hire the VIP lounge that is ideal for large groups/parties, there is a private bar, TV’s and games consoles to keep you occupied when you’re not ripping up St Andrews.

inPlayGolf

inPlayGolf is Bristol’s first indoor golf facility that accepts all standard of golfer. Situated within walking distance of Bristol city centre, inPlayGolf is easily accessible and is perfect for those who want to hone in their swing in a relaxed and informal environment.

To add to the six simulators that are perfect for social evenings and team building nights, the indoor facility also has a licensed bar and although it doesn’t serve food, you can always order a takeaway from the neighbouring steak house that will be delivered to your bay. If you’re looking at buying a new club or fancy updating the wardrobe, you can take advantage of the Foremost shop. You can even shop online and collect in-store.

Golf Bar Leeds

Golf Bar Leeds offers the perfect place to play and watch golf. The golf and various other sports are shown on the 120” screen in the main bar and on the 100” screen in the members bar so if you want to watch your favourite football team as well as practice your golf game, this is the place to go. You can even privately hire a simulator to watch whatever sporting event is on and to add, you are given a direct line to the bar where you can order food and drink which will be delivered to your bay.

The About Golf Europe simulators that are endorsed by PGA Golf Tour give you the opportunity to use the latest and most up to date technology. With over 36 premium courses to choose from, the hardest part will be picking which course to play. Situated next to the river Aire and with stunning views of the new Granary Wharf development and new train station entrance, you can enjoy the quality, affordable food and drink in the fresh air after your round.
