Reader Review - Voice Caddie T2 GPS Watch

By: Golf Shake | Thu 21 May 2015

Voice Caddie are a fairly new entrant to the UK GPS market, but their previous devices have proved popular. The T2 GPS watch is their next generation model and aims to build on the success of the T1.

The Reveiwer:  Michael Gays, a 6 handicap golfer from Cambridgeshire

What Voice Caddie say:

The T2 provides accurate yardages to the front, middle and back of greens, with automatic hole recognition

The new Smart Scorecard feature provides auto scoring by detecting how many shots you’ve taken on each hole, as well as the ability to analyse your round shot by shot when you’ve finished using the Aerial Map View mode that comes as part of the downloadable T2 Data Manager software.

Voice Caddie T2 Watch

As well as all the functionality that you would expect from an everyday watch the T2 has a comprehensive fitness mode that measures distance, average speed and calories burned.

The T2 comes preloaded with 30,000 courses, with over 40,000 courses available worldwide.

A swing tempo analysis feature enables the user to measure the ratio of backswing time to downswing time, while the rechargeable battery provides 10 hours of continuous GPS use, or six weeks of ordinary use.

Looks

Doesn't wander too far from a traditional GPS watch in terms of looks and the display is perfectly functional although these days it would probably be preferable to have a higher resolution screen.

Brushed steel bezel is smart.

Feel

For someone that never plays golf with a watch on due to the perceived notion of it feeling clunky on my wrist I actually never felt like it was in the way of my swing. Several times I had to remind myself it was even on.

Performance

Intuitive and it certainly knew exactly where we were at all times. The score entry function was a little slow and onerous but is a nice feature to have once you get the hang of it.

The watch also had a bunch of other options for step counting, cycling and mapping all of which are nice additions and broaden it's appeal outside of golf.

Pros

Modern design and easy to grasp how to use. Lighter and less obtrusive than you think before you put it on. Plethora of features not all golf related.

Cons

Accuracy potentially not 100% as we had 2 side by side with a yard or so of different readings, however it was easily accurate enough for my needs. Lower-handicappers would prefer lasers to the pin but it would be a nice addition to a laser. Screen is pretty much average.

The Bottom Line

A more feature rich alternative to other golf gps watches and sits at the cheaper end of the scale generally for distance finders. You could easily wear it all day long and not have it look out of place.

Michael's rating  7/10

The T2 Hybrid Watch will be available mid-May and carries a recommended retail price of £179.
